Verses 1-24 // Jesus’ teachings are becoming more known but Jesus is becoming less popular
People are trying to kill Him
John 7:1 ESV
1 After this Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
The world hates Jesus
John 7:7 ESV
7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.
During the feast / party there are mixed opinions but He is known
John 7:11–13 ESV
11 The Jews were looking for him at the feast, and saying, “Where is he?” 12 And there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, “He is a good man,” others said, “No, he is leading the people astray.” 13 Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him.
Jesus claims He is speaking of God’s authority and will verse
John 7:16–17 ESV
16 So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. 17 If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.
John 7:19–20 ESV
19 Has not Moses given you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?” 20 The crowd answered, “You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill you?”
John 7:25 ESV
25 Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said, “Is not this the man whom they seek to kill?
John 7:30 ESV
30 So they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
Several of these people still missed the mark and did not know this was the Christ. (verse 31)
