We die to Live

It is in dying that we are born to eternal life

Francis of assisi

The greatest of all crosses is self—if we die in part every day, we shall have but little to do on the last. These little daily deaths will destroy the power of the final dying.

Thomas Drake
Wiersbe’s Expository Outlines on the New Testament (Chapter 9)
Salvation is God’s gift to us because Jesus died for us on the cross. Discipleship is our gift to Him as we take up our cross, die to self, and follow the Lord in everything.
Warren W. Wiersbe
Sometimes shallow acceptance of the gospel is encouraged by shallow evangelism that holds out the blessings of salvation but hides the costs—such as repenting from sin, dying to self, and turning from the old life.
John F. MacArthur
It is not the law that dies, but me! Because my old self is dead my relationship to the law is broken.
R. C. Sproul
Dying to self
The first thing the life-giving Spirit says is that you must enter into death. . . . You must first die to every merely earthly hope, to every merely human confidence; you must die to your selfishness. (FSE, 7677)
Soren Kierkegaard
