Intro:

If you were to look at the stars all night long with your head in the exact same position and it became daylight would you still be looking at the stars? Imagining yourself still staring in the blackness of the night sky and as you were staring there add the bright shining stars the sun begins to rise and as the sun begins to rise the brightness of the sun it's so intensely bright you can no longer see the darkness nor the stars. But I tell you the stars are still in the exact same spot that they were get the brightness and the glory of the sun hides those stars. And just as the stars glory is taken away by the brightness of the sun King David’s very presence as the author of this song is completely hidden by the glory and splendor that it reveals about Gods one and Only Son.

Promise

1. The promises of God to His people my not be understood by what is immediately present.

a. Forsaken V.1 – Mark 15:34 “34 And at three Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lemá sabachtháni?” which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?””

i. Jesus Suffering was unique.

ii. God was His God

iii. Intense Agony for the penalty of sin.

iv. 2 Cor 5:21 “21 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

b. Forgotten V.3 Psalm 22:3 “3 But you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.”

i. Jesus used the Psalms as a place of comfort and reminder.

iii. Comfort as he said 3-5

1. You Are Holy

a. No matter what God is Holy!

b. He can be trusted.

c. Think of what God has done.

iv. Reminded of what He is doing 21b-31

1. He will be rescued.

2. He will be delivered

3. Bringing people of all nations into a right relationship with God.

4. Bringing Comfort to the Afflicted with his affliction.

1. The price for your sin has been paid in full.

Prophecy

3. The detail and imagery of the words used.

i. V.6 –

1) “This verse is a miracle in language. How could the Lord of glory be brought to such abasement as to be not only lower than the angels, but even lower than men. What a contrast between ‘I am’ and ‘I am a worm ‘!” “He felt himself to be comparable to a helpless, powerless, down–trodden worm, passive while crushed, and unnoticed and despised by those who trod upon him. He selects the weakest of creatures, which is all flesh; and becomes, when trodden upon, writhing, quivering flesh, utterly devoid of any might except strength to suffer. This was a true likeness of himself when his body and soul had become a mass of misery—the very essence of agony—in the dying pangs of crucifixion.” (Spurgeon)

2) Hebrew word for a worm is “rimmah”, which means a maggot. This word used is TOLA’ATH, which means “Crimson worm” or “Scarlet worm”

a. Crimson worm - coccus ilicis

b. Finds a tree, Lays Eggs, Babies feed on the mother

c. The mother oozes the crimson color and stains the tree and her children for the rest of their lives.

d. After 3 days the mother dies and turns into a heart shaped ball of wax and falls to the ground.

Christ is the Worm-

b. Willingly went upon a tree to give birth to his people

1. Gives us his Body and Blood as Food as a Spiritual Memorial of what He has done.

2. Washed us with his crimson blood that we will be white as snow in the sight of God.
