Jesus here is teaching His disciple how to pray
He starts by recognizing the one we pray to.
Recognize who your talking to
Recognize who your talking to
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
T - prayer- talking to God
The one we pray to father - the first person of the trinity.
Where is the father?
But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.
We recognize God as Our Father in Heaven.
Omnipresent- omni- latin for All , All present - presence is everywhere at all times.
However we adress His position as in the heavens ruling over all things.
Hallowed be his name - recognizing his holliness.
Holy - seperate, concecrated,
“Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Recognizing that God is holy is key to your prayer because it positions you rightly to see
that you are approaching the one who split the sea for moses
the one who sent angel armies to defend Elisha
and the one who rose Jesus from the dead
this verse
implores us to hold Gods name in reverence.
but also to hold tightly to the fact that this great God is our father.
Jewish people in this time were foreign to the Idea of God being father
It was too intimate
They could easily hold God in reverance for His mighty deeds
but it was hard for them to see a relationship where God was their father
Jesus ministry in fulfilling the law brought the people into right relationship with God as their father
moving on in
Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
