Matthew 28:9–10 NKJV
9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
Luke 24:36–39 NKJV
36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.” 37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”
John 20:14–15 NKJV
14 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
John 20:16–17 NKJV
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ”
The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed!
Ideas:
We celebrate the Risen Lord, we celebrate the church, we celebrate life itself!
This is why Christianity works.
The Resurrection of the Lord established the Christian faith.
1 Corinthians 15:14 NKJV
14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.
1 Corinthians 15:20 NKJV
20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
We celebrate the Resurrection by studying the First Words of Jesus after He rose from the dead.
Jesus’ first words after the Resurrection:
“Rejoice!”
Matthew 28:9 NKJV
9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.
We call Christmas the season of Joy, why don’t we call Easter the same thing
Historians in trying to find the actual date of the Resurrection came up with April 5, AD 33.
In His creative genius, God created the Spring season, a time of rebirth, when coming out of the deadness of winter, nature springs back to life.
This is a season of joy. We should all be singing “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”
Do you know that even before the cross, and enduring the cross Jesus looked forward to this joy.
Hebrews 12:2 NKJV
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
That anticipation is driven by God’s love!
Feeling unworthy?
The story of the Resurrection is that of God’s Love to the least deserving. (John Piper)
Jesus’ first words after the Resurrection:
“Do not be afraid!”
Matthew 28:10 NKJV
10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
the disciples, who scampered away
Fear of judgement (by the authorities, by the world - they were left alone)
fear of condemnation, - betrayal and abandonment of Christ
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus..
What is your greatest fear today?
The Lord tells you “do not be afraid” and then He gives direction: Go to where you will find Me.
This Resurrection Sunday, trust in the Lord Jesus Christ!
Jesus’ first words after the Resurrection:
Peace be to you!
Luke 24:36 NKJV
36 Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.”
Peter - denied the Lord three times.
Inner struggles
Inner Turmoil
This Resurrection Sunday, Jesus the Prince of Peace tells you - Peace be to you!
Jesus’ first words after the Resurrection:
"Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?”
Luke 24:37–38 NKJV
37 But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit. 38 And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?
Luke 24:39 NKJV
39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”
Ponder this question in your heart
Thomas - “to see is to believe!” but we walk by faith and not by sight. This is beautiful. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe. There is a blessedness in this room today!
Romans 6 quotes:
The Resurrection gives us “newness of life”
We have been united with Christ through the Resurrection.
The power of the Resurrection
Ephesians 1:19–21 NKJV
19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
This is actually a prayer for you.. the rest of Ephesians 1

Mary Magdalene
Don’t you just love Jesus? “Tell me”, “Talk to me”
Mary thought it was the end
Do you feel that your hope was dashed? It is not the end of your life.
There is hope. And hope has a Name - Jesus!
