The Death of Jesus Christ

Why did Jesus die?
So we wouldn’t have to. To Save us!
Because of Sin and Death
Sin lives within the knowledge of Good and Evil
Sin is what hides in our thoughts, in our actions and behaviors. The thing that consumes us. The addiction, the pride of life, the arrogance. All of this Jesus took upon himself at the cross
He had no sin, so He took our sin.
Now We still have to make a choice, but His death was to make way for our Life!
Why was His Death terrible.
Because He was taking the blame and sentence for all of our sins! Because through His pain we received healing, through His death we received Life!
Sin has robbed us of life!
Life has been taken from us! Jesus came to restore dominion back to us!
He was betrayed and rejected,
Judas with a Kiss betrays Jesus! Peter soon after denies Jesus three times.
Beaten, Mocked, falsely accused, spat on, tortured and abused.
Carried His cross. Naked before all to see
None of these sufferings were enough to cause Jesus to stop or deviate him from His purpose
Isaiah 53:3 NLT
He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.
He understands our pain and suffering, and we know it because He suffered as a man suffers
Isaiah 53:4–5 NLT
Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
All that Jesus suffered was to save us from our sins and wounds.

The Death of Jesus Gives us an Opportunity for Life

He took it all so we wouldn’t have to
Jesus Gave His life in exchange for Ours
John 3:14–17 NKJV
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Now there is hope and salvation for us
Sin was also defeated. The penalty , the payment was covered. Death and sin no longer have a claim on us because of Jesus Blood shed on the cross
There was a legal demand here. We sinned therefore there is a debt that needs to be settled.
Hebrews 9:22 NKJV
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
The only way is by the shedding of Blood and that is why Jesus died on the cross.
So what do we learn from Jesus’s Death?

The purpose of the death of Jesus was God’s plan and the fulfillment of the promise to:

- restore man’s dominion over the earth - we have been robbed and now we can be restored!
- provide forgiveness of sins - we need forgiveness
- to restore fellowship with God - We need God in us
- to give Eternal Life to all who will believe - We need abundant life! No more death!

The Resurrection of Jesus from the Dead

Jesus’s resurrection from the dead is a historical fact with many witness.
Why do we say that?
Jesus was seen by the 12 and many others
Jesus was seen by over 500 people at one time.
Reading: optional
1 Corinthians 15:1–8 NKJV
Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.
What is the importance of the resurrection?
The Resurrection from the dead is so important to this story because the Resurrection is the proof of the victory!
It is proof that sin and death no longer have power over us! The grave was final! Separation for eternity! Now Christ says no grave is going to separate you from God!
On the third day! Jesus rose from the Dead! Conquering every enemy that stands against us today!
The only way to victory for us would be for an innocent man to give His life to save everyone.
Because Jesus never sinned. Death couldn’t lay claim to him.
Acts 2:24 AMP
[But] God raised Him up, liberating Him from the pangs of death, seeing that it was not possible for Him to continue to be controlled or retained by it.
And now today if we believe in Jesus we too can stand and declare that Death and Sin no longer have a hold on us!
He defeated Death and hell for every person who would believe in him
Revelation 1:18 NKJV
I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.
1 Corinthians 15:21–22 NKJV
For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.
Hebrews 2:15 AMP
And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives.
