Day 8: Easter Sunday

Jesus' Resurrection

Mt 28:1-15; Mk 16:1-8; Lk 24:1-12; Jn 20:1-18

---

4 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” --- Lk 24:4-5

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. --- Mt 28:6a

The RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST is the CORNERSTONE of the Christian Faith

18 “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death 19 and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.” --- Mt 20:18-19

13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. --- 1 Cor 15:13-15

---

I. The Resurrection Brings New Life

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. --- Rom 6:4

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. --- 2 Cor 5:17

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. --- 1 Jn 5:1

A. The New Life is Abundant

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. --- Jn 10:10

The abundant life of Jesus:

  • 1. Jesus born under remarkably humble conditions
  • 2. Jesus revealed through extraordinary and supernatural means
  • 3. Jesus said remarkable things
  • 4. Jesus performed extraordinary miracles
  • 5. Jesus went above and beyond to love others intentionally
  • 6. Jesus revealed the kind of abundance and fullness He can bring

B. The New Life is Eternal

I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. --- Jn 11:25-26

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. --- Jn 3:16

What is Eternal LIfe?

It is the new life that:

  • 1. Has a personal relationship with God (Jn 17:3)
  • 2. Is deemed righteous and will no longer suffer eternal punishment and death (Mt 25:46)
  • 3. Is given freely (Rom 6:23b)
  • 4. Will satisfy us completely (Jn 4:14)
  • 5. Culminates in eternal goodness and glory (2 Cor 4:17)
  • 6. Starts the moment we believe in Jesus (Jn 3:36a)

---

II. The Resurrection Brings Divine Power

19 I pray that you will continually experience the immeasurable greatness of God’s power made available to you through faith. Then your lives will be an advertisement of this immense power as it works through you! This is the mighty power 20 that was released when God raised Christ from the dead and exalted him to the place of highest honor and supreme authority in the heavenly realm! --- Eph 1:19-20, TPT

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. --- Jn 14:12

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. --- Acts 1:8

A. We Have the Power to Overcome Sin

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. --- Rom 6:6

God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. --- Acts 2:24

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. --- Rom 6:12-14

But I say, *walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. --- Gal 5:16

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. --- Jas 4:7

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. --- 1 Jn 4:4

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. --- 1 Jn 1:9

/ 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. --- Col 1:13-14

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. --- Rom 8:1

B. We Have the Power to Live For God

Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God. --- Rom 7:4

/ I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. --- Gal 2:20

and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. --- 2 Cor 5:15

7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. --- 2 Cor 4:7-11

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. --- Eph 3:20, NLT
