Called Out to Live! ¡Llamados a Vivir una Nueva Vida! April 9, 2023 Scripture Reader: Steve Erickson (Exodus 12:31-42) Pharaoh sent for Moses and Aaron during the night. "Get out!" he ordered. Leave my people-and take the rest of the Israelites with you! Go and worship the Lord as you have requested. Take your flocks and herds, as you said, and be gone. Go, but bless me as you leave. All the Egyptians urged the people of Israel to get out of the land as quickly as possible, for they thought, We will all die! The Israelites took their bread dough before yeast was added. They wrapped their kneading boards in their cloaks and carried them on their shoulders. And the people of Israel did as Moses had instructed; they asked the Egyptians for clothing and articles of silver and gold. The Lord caused the Egyptians to look favorably on the Israelites, and they gave the Israelites whatever they asked for. So they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth! That night the people of Israel left Rameses and started for Succoth. There were about 600,000 men, plus all the women and children. A rabble of non-Israelites went with them, along with great flocks and herds of livestock. For bread they baked flat cakes from the dough without yeast they had brought from Egypt. It was made without yeast because the people were driven out of Egypt in such a hurry that they had no time to prepare the bread or other food. The people of Israel had lived in Egypt for 430 years. In fact, it was on the last day of the 430th year that all the Lord's forces left the land. On this night the Lord kept his promise to bring his people out of the land of Egypt. So this night belongs to him, and it must be commemorated every year by all the Israelites, from generation to generation. Introduction: We are concluding our series on Exodus-Called Out and we have learned quite a bit * We have been called out to our purpose in God * We have been called out from our sufferings to be healed * We are been called out to be obedient * We are called out to receive God's provisions * We are called out from our sin * We are called out to live a new life in Jesus Christ. Resurrection is about new life. The word simply means..."a rising again from decay or death to new life". La resurrección se trata de una nueva vida. La palabra simplemente significa... "un resurgimiento de la decadencia o muerte a una nueva vida". Easter is the Christian holiday which remembers the events surrounding the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God's only Son. * No other religion or faith belief has such a testimony. * The tomb of You can go to the tomb of Confucius, Buddha or Mohammed are all occupied but the place where the body of Jesus was placed is empty and that is why we celebrate Easter. Just two weeks ago, we baptized 7 people in water, a powerful but symbolic experience of death and resurrection, going down into the water and coming out to new life. We baptize new believers as a testimony of their new life in Jesus Christ. Those persons baptized are testifying to all who see and know them that they are not the former persons, their life has been transformed-brought back to life in Jesus Christ! For a few minutes I want to draw your attention to this story and it's connection to this new life we celebrate today. This New Life Is An Act Of God's Miraculous Grace Esta Nueva Vida Es Un Acto De La Gracia Milagrosa De Dios * The Hebrew nation we have been studying for the past 6 weeks had been slaves in Egypt for many years. * Their life had been hard and they had cried out to God for deliverance * And it came! As Dustin preached last week, the people were instructed to produce a lamb without blemish and to sprinkle the blood upon their doorposts * When the angel of death passed through the land of Egypt, God miraculously caused the homes of the Hebrews to escape the death of the first born. * It was grace-nothing that they had earned or deserved-simply God's grace that spared their lives. * It's the same with you and me- * We are saved and live as believers not through any effort of our own, in fact, our attempts to please God will always leave us short- (Ephesians 2:8-9) God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. None of us can boast about it. This New Life Is A Forever Gift Esta Nueva Vida Es Un Regalo Para Siempre (John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. (Juan 3:16) Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que dio a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna. We are created with a body, a soul and a spirit. * Our bodies are made from the dust of the earth * Our spirit is the life of God breathed into us * Our souls are the eternal creation of God When we die... * Our bodies return to the earth where we are formed * Our spirits return to God who gave it * Our soul...it lives on forever somewhere. Jesus teaches this better than I can (Luke 16) * Before Jesus, when godly people died they were carried by angels to the "bosom of Abraham" and there they waited. * This was not heaven but a waiting place because Calvary had not occurred. o The sins of Old Testament saints were remitted by the Levitical system of atonement using the blood of animals. Since this was not sufficient to completely atone for their sins, those who died in faith went to Abraham's Bosom and waited until the time their sins would be paid for completely. * According to the story Jesus told, the sinful man woke up in hell and is forever tormented there with no hope for salvation. * On the night of this text Steve read, the children of Israel took an animal and sprinkled the blood upon their doors as a symbol of their faith in God's promises. Throughout history, men and women offered sacrifices of blood, as God commanded but while their salvation was by faith, their sins were not washed away by Calvary's cross. Thousands of animals gave their blood to seek forgiveness from sin, but only the blood of Jesus could wash away all sin. Conclusion: * Jesus Christ came to this earth as a human baby and grew in to a man and was offered on a cross to pay for every sin that had been or will be committed on earth by man. * We could not save ourselves * We can make resolutions, turn over new leaves, do our best and we will still be lost- * It is only when we put our trust and faith in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, trust Him for our salvation that our sins are taken away. (1 Corinthians 15:10) But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. (1 Corintios 15:10) Pero por la gracia de Dios soy lo que soy, y su gracia para conmigo no resultó vana; antes trabajé más que todos ellos, pero no yo, sino la gracia de Dios conmigo. God I'm a sinner I'm sorry for my sins I believe Jesus died for my sins I believe Jesus will forgive my sins I choose Jesus Dios soy un pecador lo siento por mis pecados Creo que Jesús murió por mis pecados. Creo que Jesús perdonará mis pecados. elijo a jesus
