Redefining success
Ask: If someone were to ask you, “was the Baseball season successful” what would we normally base our answer off of?
How much you win
More than winning
Character development
Pillar 1-Humility:
Know who you are & know who you’re not
Definition: Not thinking too highly of yourself
Humility leads to:
Collaboration/communication
The cornerstone of good team chemistry
Cultivates trust
Encourages ideas
Help others
Empathetic
Not, “How can the team help me,” but “How can I help the team?”
Coachability/teachable
Willing to work at change
Two opposite extremes (meet in the middle)
Vs. The Prideful Athlete
Initially impressive & self-confident, but become...
Disparaging/critical
Takes too much credit
Impulsive
Defensive
Hogs opportunities
Peak early
Unwilling to take responsibility
Conceited (cancerous)
The Culture Says:
Deserve what we can get/work for
Vs. James 4:10: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.“
Compare ourselves to others
Vs. Romans 3:23 : “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
“Winning is not everything, it’s the only thing”
Sometimes it takes losing to get our attention
Humility: Not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less
Ways to practice humility with your team:
Give credit to others
Listen twice as much as you speak
Admit when you are wrong
Next time: Passion
