Thank God for the gift of mothers and the role they play in our lives.Acknowledge that Mother's Day can be a joyful or difficult day for some depending on their relationship with their mothers.Explain that today we will look at how God calls us to celebrate and honor motherhood, regardless of the circumstances.
I. Motherhood is a Divine Calling
Read Psalm 139:13-14 "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."Explain that motherhood is a divine calling, and that God creates and forms each child in the mother's womb with care and intention.Discuss how motherhood is an opportunity for women to participate in God's creative work and to shape the lives of their children.
II. Jesus Honored His Mother
Read John 19:26-27 "When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, 'Woman, here is your son,' and to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' From that time on, this disciple took her into his home."Explain that even in His final moments on the cross, Jesus demonstrated honor to His mother by ensuring that she would be cared for after His death.Discuss how we can follow Jesus' example by honoring our own mothers and caring for them as they age.
III. The Mother's Role in the Family
Discuss the importance of a mother's role in the family, including nurturing, teaching, and providing emotional support.Read Proverbs 31:25-28 "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."Explain that the Proverbs 31 woman is an example of a mother who is praised and honored for her hard work, wisdom, and care for her family.
