Outline

Intro:
- Why are we here? Funerals are for the living. The reason we are here is to say goodbye to Cheryl. Today is more for us than for her. And the only way I know how to do that is by pointing us to God’s Word. So I want to point you to several things in this book.
The Lord is My Shepherd
The LORD - This is the name Yahweh. It is the name that means that God is the only God. He is the God who always has been and always will be and is even now. This is the God who is alone God.
<Moses>
In the New Testament, we find that this Lord is revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Shepherd -
Scripture says that he is the God of all mercy and the father of all comfort.
In the New Testament, we see that Jesus himself says he is the Good Shepherd, that he knows his sheep and they hear his voice. (John 10:14)
As the Good Shepherd, Jesus lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:15)
In the Gospel of Matthew, Scripture actually tells us that Jesus leaves 99 sheep to go and find the one, to go and seek and save the lost.
He lays down his life, he died on teh cross, so we could be saved.
As the Good Shepherd, Jesus brings us into his flock. (John 10:17)
As the Good Shepherd, he makes us to not want.
As the Good shepherd, he comforts us in our brokenness. This passage actually tells us that even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, his rod and staff they comfort us.
They provide life in the midst of death.
My
It is one thing to hear that God is a shepherd, but it is another to say that he is my shepherd. What does it mean to have Jesus as “my” shepherd. To have someone who is on your side, who is watching for you.
Is he your shepherd? How can he be “my shepherd”? Well, are you his sheep? Have you trusted him with your life? With your salvation?
Have you come to Jesus and said, “Jesus, here is all of me, I want all of you”?
3 Comforts:
There is no shepherd like this shepherd
There is no flock like his flock
There is no hope like this hope
