WHO WROTE THE BOOK OF FIRST JOHN
The writer is a witness of Christ he saw and heard his teachings (1 John 1-4). The author had an encounter with Jesus Christ (1 John 1-4). The book of First John was written by John the son of Zebedee who was also a disciple of Jesus Christ (Mark 1:19-20). The introduction to the two books that he wrote which are John and Revelation are similar to that of 1 John. Church Tradition also affirms the writer of this letter to be John the Apostle of Jesus Christ.

Throughout the letter the authors main target are believers. 1 John 2:12-14, 19; 3:1, 5:13 shows that the letter was written to believers.

It very hard to know when the letter of first John was written. But the evidence of the early church historians and writers places the date of authorship between ad 70-100.

Why was it written
The audience of the author were in an era of false teachings (1 John 2:18). These teachings have turned many believers away from their faith. John’s purpose of writing this letter was to expose these false teachers (1 John 2:26 and give assurance to believers about their salvation (1 John 5:13).

The book of 1 John was written by John the Son of Zebedee who was also the apostle of Jesus Christ. This letter was written to believers and its date of authorship is between ad 70-100. John had twofold purpose for writing which is to expose false teachers and to give assurance to believers about their salvation.
