Focus on Righteous Things
Philippians 4:7-9
I. Peace through God. (Philippians 4:7)
A. Through Christ is peace.
1. There are many things to be worried about.
a) School
b) Relationships
c) Jobs
d) Future.
2. The Lord is in control.
a) Philippians 4:6 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know to God;”
b) Matthew 6:25 “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?”
B. How do we know God is in control?
1. Luke 12:22-26
2. Jesus said not to worry because He takes care of you. He takes care of the animals so how much more does he care for you?
II. Peace comes from focusing on good things. (Philippians 4:8)
A. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
1. These things are worthy of God’s praise.
2. He created all things and called them good.
a) Colossians 1:16 “by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”
B. Since we are supposed to dwell on Godly things, how does this look in our life? What is supposed to happen? What may need to change?
III. The things that we learn and see from God give us peace. (Philippians 4:9)
A. “Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”
1. Paul is saying to not only listen to the things he has said, but he said do them.
2. James 1:22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
B. Why are we not supposed to be afraid?
C. Why then is God always in control?
D. What are some of the reasons why we do not focus on Godly things?
E. What are some measurable applications that you can do today to focus on Godly things?
