Romans 8:1–10 NKJV
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Jesus Christ came to destroy sin and death so that being set free we may live our lives according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh.
Those who live according to the Spirit in Christ Jesus, will not be condemed, they are those who fullfill the rigtheous requirement of the Law.
Living according to Spirit requires:
The Spirit of God, If we have ths Spirirt of God in our life, we not in the flesh but in the Spirit.
The Spirit of God, kills the desires and the lust of the flesh , and brings life into our mortal bodies.
2. Our minds must be transformed to a spiritual mind.
“those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, and those who who live according to the spirit the things of the Spirit”
It begins with your mind, if you mind is consistently set on the things of the flesh then you live will reflect that, you will live a worldy life.
Romans 12:1–2 (NKJV)
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Our life will comform to our mindset
if our mind is worldly then, our life will comform to the world.
The renewing of our mind by God’s spirit and his Word enables our life not to comform to world but to the image of God.
Discering what is acceptable and perfet will of God can only be done if our mind is renewed by the Spirit of God.
Roman 8:6 “6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
Carnally minded: to have our mind set completely on the things of the flesh is death. There is no peace in it, neither is there life in it.
Example: spend you day completely with your mind set on carnal things, i tell you at the end your day you are not gonna feel full of life, nor even peace. You fill distressed, worried, discouraged.
The world is subject to death, death reigns over the world, none of the things of the wold gives life.
We are in the world but we are not of the world, because our mind is not set here, is set on the things of heaven.
Spiritual minded: seting your mind on the things of the Spirit, is life to your soul, fatness to your bones. It edifies you
Isaiah 26:3 “3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
When our mind is set on Christ, the things of Christ, then we will remain in perfect peace.
Isaiah 48:22 “22 “There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.””
Psalm 10:4 “4 The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.
Example Peter walking on Water Matthew 14:22-31.
Peter when his mind was set on Christ, on the things of Christ he was at peace though their was a storm around him.
However, when he began to turn his mind away from God and set his mind on things around, his peace was gone and the storm that was outside came inside of him and he was fearful.
As long us our mind are set on the things of the Spirit what is around us won’t bother us. The storm that is in the world will not enter into our mind. We will be in perfect peace walking with the Lord.
Colossians 3:1–4 NKJV
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
On what we set our mind is what we will seek after.
Let us set our mind on the things of heaven, and we will find ourselves seeking this things.
Philippians 3:17–21 NKJV
17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. 18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
Let us always remember that our citizenship is in heaven and not on earth.
The Greek word translated citizenship, implies as sense of community, dwelling place. Our home, our life, our affections, our desire, our thoughts must be there.
