Hey folks, this is Pastor David. Hopefully, this is going to work this time, I preach this message on Sunday, April 16th, but it did not record either by my recorder, my voice recorder or by The Proclaimers system. So we're going to try it again. I'm preaching this message all over again from home. So it's going to be slightly different than what we've heard on Sunday. You're not going to hear. The congregation are the amen. Still after the Coffs, the booze the xcetera. But today, we're going to be in John chapter 6, I'll talk to you about Jesus as the bread of life. And as we talked about Jesus as the bread of life, it's really important for us to realize that there's a lot impacted and Anyone. So today sermon contains 100 points. Jokingly really, what I wanted to share is that as John writes for faith and belief, he is writing about the seven manifestations of Jesus, as the Messiah. We were with this series of messages before Easter and then course Palm Sunday. We had the puppets and then Easter Sunday, we're as we celebrated Resurrection Sunday. So we're back to the seven manifestations of Jesus as the Messiah Just to get you back on track with the thought process. The sign. Number four was when he fed the 5000 plus. And now and the miraculous sign. Number 5, that John records. We see Jesus being the bread of life, not

a sermon contains and that it's a story about Works versus Grace that I wanted to open us up with Another story about a man who dies and goes to heaven.

Peter said terrific, that's certainly worth the point. 1 Point. Well, I started the soup kitchen in my city and I worked in a shelter for homeless veterans.

Only two points. He replied. The man started to cry. You said at this rate, the only way I can get into heaven by Peters. There's your hundred point Come On In. It's not a hundred points to the sermon, that's just a fun. Spray to remind us that we cannot earn our Salvation nor will we ever deserve it? And as John is writing, he's writing to put on display Jesus as the promised Messiah. One of the key words will see throughout his gospel is Beaufort, to have belief, he's writing for faith and belief looking at the seven manifestations. And actually, this chapter, where Jesus is the bread of life. That's the first of the I am statements.

So, another thing he's looking at and this is something that I didn't fully grasp until just recently, you know, as many times as the read the Bible, it's always knew God's word never changes, but our understanding does change a little bit. He is dealing and confronting with their belief in Salvation, through the works of Moses. And they're not able to see the grace of the Lord Jesus. Works versus Grace that you may believe, that's the key thing throughout his gospel. So we're going to take today's text, John chapter 6, starting a verse 22, all the way through 71 and put it under the first versus Grace, not Muslims. They work off of a point system by doing the different things they do, they try to earn points with a la, there's no guarantees that they'll make it into what I would refer to, as their version of Heaven. They live by the threat of never being good enough.

Next we have Catholics. They work off of a Penance system. There's a 7 Sacrament with the people at the days of Martin Luther. We're having to pay the church in order to have forgiveness, they have Purgatory where you would have a special mass conducted for the deceased and water to help, pray, and pay them into heaven. Some will say they don't do that anymore. I know it's has recent of

In 2011, my mom wanted all of us kids to pool our money together in order to come up with enough money, for the Catholic Church, to do a special match to help my dad get past purgatory and into heaven. Next we have Lutheran, stay also work off of the catechism that you'll see about the catechism at least in the order that I had in one particular Lutheran Church where my wife and I had performed the gospel illusion show for their churches School. Parted the Red Sea, which we know God is the one who did it. And that Moses was the one who provided Manna in the desert Wilderness for the 40 Years. Of course, we know that God is the one who provided that to where the Baptist fit in.

It says, do not. Food. Built this word in the grossest. That's like saying, bro sis Well. Word that is translated as food in John's gospel. When you go over to Hebrews chapter 12 in verse 16 is transferred translated, food meal and Hebrews. 12 is talking about when Esau sold his Birthright for a single meal. And here are the word translated as food. That's in John 5:32. It's an 6:27. A couple of times and verse 55. Paul also uses this word over in 2nd Corinthians. 9:10.

kind of odd but when you really look what John is reading app, Food. That spoiled. Kind of the same idea in.

According to Matthew 4:4 and we know that spiritual food leads to eternal life. Not Jews that made. Jesus made it hard for them to believe in order to weed out the riff raff.

Later and verse 53, he'll say, unless you eat the Flesh of the son of man. And drink his blood, you have no life in you. Well, that's figurative speech. In other words, Jesus is bigger and better than the manner of old with Moses in the watering Jews and the Wilderness, the Israelites In verse 28, they asked the question, what must we do? To be doing the works.

They believed not in Jesus, but their belief was that they could please God and earn eternal life by doing good works. Member of the overarching themes up to in John's gospel is the confrontation between works or Works. In razor works at belief.

No, we follow Ephesians 2 and verse 10, where we do good works to bring glory to God, who had already saved us.

There's a Bible verse from Romans. I want us to see real quickly says for, I can testify about them that they are zealous for God. But their Zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own. They did not submit to God's righteousness. Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes they're seeking after self-righteousness instead of the righteousness provided by Jesus. It's an issue of belief of faith of trust. Those three words are often interchangeable, but the high percent of a high percentage of the that the Greek word pistachio. Is translated as believe. Sir, they said always give us this bread. Then Jesus declared. I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me until you believe

they were looking for a sign and earlier, I kind of jokingly or chuckled when I said, wasn't feeding 5000 enough of a sign or verse 31, it talks about our ancestors, ate the man in the wilderness, as it was written, he gave them bread from Heaven to eat with her thinking, that Moses was the one who gave them the bread, The Manor. And in essence, what they are saying to Jesus. Is this?

Jesus, if you were more than Moses, then do more than Moses did, They were comparing Jesus feeding the 5,000, to Moses feeding an entire nation for 40 years. What they fail to realize is that Moses did not feed Israel. God did. And Jesus Is God, he is the bread of Life come down from heaven, that bread of life is seeing hearing verses 32 and 33 again inverse 38 vs 41 + 4250 + 51. + 58 That's really enough fences. Anna verse 35, where it says, I am the bread of life. This is the first of the seven. I am statements. He'll go on to say, on the light of the world. The door of the sheep, I am the Good Shepherd. + 8. Vs 37, through 40. Jesus continuing to speak here. He says all those the father gives me will come to me and whoever comes to me

Have a not to do my will, but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me that I shall lose. None of all those, he has given me, but raise them up. At the last day verse 44, my father's will is that everyone who looks to the Sun and hears that word again from John believes in him shall have eternal life and I will race up at the last day. So the Mandate here, it's that to believe and trust you or eternal life. Without. Nothing else matters. What does Nothing Else? Matters brings us to the next section, verses 41 and 42. The murmur. That's a negative term. Back to verse 41 at this that use their begin to Grumble about him because he said I am the bread that came from Heaven. They said is this not Jesus? Remember, they're missing it because they're focused on Earthly things.

Goes on to say, how can he now? Say I came down from heaven.

They Grumble just like their forefathers did in the wilderness. We see that in Exodus chapter 15 verse 24. When they're complaining, what shall we drink? We want to go back to Egypt. We want to be in slavery on hard labor. I want to go to Miami. They could not see Jesus in any other way than from an earth effective. What's the next one? The meaning we got the meanderings monologue. Murmur. Now the meeting. 43. Stop grumbling among yourselves. Jesus answered no one can come to me unless the father who sent me draws them and

Everyone who has her the father and learned from him, comes to me. No one has seen the father, except the one who is from God only, he has seen the father, very truly. I tell you the one who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the Manna in the wilderness yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh which I will give for the life of the world.

There's some questions in this text that I want to briefly address talkin about other drawing people to himself and we know that's truth. We know and John 12:32 Jesus said when I am lifted up from the earth will draw all

That is a verse that divided Catholics from Lutheran's to the rest of Protestants Baptist for example. Where Jesus said, I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flat But I will go for it, the life of the world. Catholics believe in something called transubstantiation. which means that when they observe the Eucharist or what we would call the Lord's Supper, The element literally morphed into the blood and Body of Christ. Literally. Jesus is on the cross the crucifixion, Catholic Church. Somebody wants that. That's because they have to crucify him over and over every time they observe the Eucharist that's the transubstantiation that Catholics observe. Consubstantiation. Is that the flesh-and-blood coexists in the elements? It looks the same. Jesus's shape-shifted. I don't know how to describe it without having to go into great detail, but they believe that believe that Jesus literally becomes the elements The lutherans believe that he coexists in the element where Baptist realize that this is figurative speech. It is symbolic. That it's a ruff. Bad word, Will You observe?

We're going to go on vs 52 through 59. I'm going to read this as fast as I can. So follow a long session, the juice began to argue sharply among themselves. How can this man? Give us his flesh to eat. Jesus said to them very truly. I tell you, unless you eat the Flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks. My blood has eternal life and I will raise them up on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks, my blood remains in me and I in them. Just as the living father, sent me and I live because of the father. So the one who feeds on me will live because of me, this is the bread that comes down from heaven. Your ancestors, ate Manna and died. But whoever feeds on the bread will live forever. He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum,

There's a word here that I want to highlight that. It's not just a belief but to remain in that belief.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks. My blood remains in me.

That would remain also in some translations. It is translated as a b and a man as one of the most theological terms and John's gospel probably the most important theological term in John's gospel. Is he, the father remains in the sun, 14:10, the spirit remains on Jesus, chapter 12, Believers remain in Jesus and Jesus in them. 16:56 15:4. No other 12 New Testament uses of this Greek word meno which means to abide a remain. John's writings account for literally 50% or 66 of those uses. So we see it is a key theological term in John's gospel. He uses that term 40 times and his gospel 23 times, and 1st John and three more times and 2nd John.

See, there's no salvation based on the law because no one can adhere to its righteous requirements. Except for Jesus, who then extends the offer of Salvation through faith,

You know, the emphasis of water, the fact that this story is at the center of John's argument presentation, that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. And we've been dealing with Works versus belief. No water flow through the allusion or reference reuse of water flows through John's gospel.

In chapter 1 Jesus's baptize chapter 2. He turns water to wine. Chapter 3 says you have to be born of water and the Holy Spirit not to reject be born again. John the baptizer Baptist is baptizing where there's plenty of water and 3:25 talks about the ceremonial washing. Moving in the chapter for Jesus meets The Samaritan woman at the well, which is the Living Water. He's offering and this is at Jacob's. Well, he says, give me a drink at, but if you drink my water you'll never thirst again. There's also an 4:36, another reference to the water to wine scenario. Chapter 5. There's a healing at the pool, chapter 6, or this text hear. Jesus said walk done. A refers to my blood drink. With the food.

Where is the outline? I've got here to talk about the crown, stay focused on the physical. They were seeking after Mana.

For the wrong reasons. The Jews who are Ferris akel. They were shaking religion with the wrong results, the disciples are those who initially had followed, they were seeking God, but with the wrong motivations or motives, if you will. And then the 12:00 - 1, they were forgiven. They were seeking after Jesus the right relationships. These four groups, these four levels of faith, if it will get us to a closing.
