The presence of the Holy Spirit
18 Then the glory of the Lord moved out from the entrance of the Temple and hovered above the cherubim.
A.W Tozer - mentioned in a sermon in Chicago once, that some churches are so completely out of the hands of God, if the Holy Ghost withdrew from them, they would not find it out for three months. (“The Mystery of the Holy Spirit” Pg. 24-25)
13 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.
14 The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.
28 “Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.
Definition - SEAL (חוֹתָם, chotham; σφραγίς, sphragis). A small engraved object used to make an image in soft clay or wax indicating ownership, authority, or authenticity—much like a modern signature.
The benefit of the seal
22 and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.
As a seal may be marred and broken, so the Holy Spirit may be “grieved” and “quenched.”
James Smith and Robert Lee, Handfuls on Purpose for Christian Workers and Bible Students, Series I–XIII, five-volume edition., vol. 9 (Grand Rapids, MI: William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 1971), 157.
What does the Holy Spirit testify about?
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The Holy Spirit never enters a man and then lets him live like the world.
Assurance of our Salvation
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.
39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.
28 After this I will pour out my Spirit on all humanity; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your old men will have dreams, and your young men will see visions.
29 I will even pour out my Spirit on the male and female slaves in those days.
