Introduction

Welcome - excited to be with you all this evening
I don’t get to spend as much time with you all in this type of setting as I’d like, but I want you all to know that as your pastor, my door is always open for you if you have questions or if there’s a way that I can pray for you or support you! Every week that you all have your Bible study classes, we have an adult Bible study class in the sanctuary and each spring and fall we split that up and have some smaller classes and more discussion. That means that in the spring and fall I’m able to spend a couple of weeks with you all and teaching some new members classes. If any of you have been baptized, you are members of our church and you’re invited the first 2 Wednesday nights in May to join our new members class that will take place in the FLC at 6pm to learn more about our church, what it means to be a member of our church, and different ways that you can serve in the church, even as a youth!
Tonight and next Wednesday, though, we’re going to do something a little bit different. I’m going to open the floor to you all for questions that you have about the Bible, our church, Jesus, and those types of things.

Is the Bible True/Authoritative?

What is truth?

What Does the Bible Say About Homosexuality?

What Does the Bible Say About Transgenderism?

What Does the Bible Say About My Purpose?

Does Truth Change?

Can I Be a “Gay” Christian?

Before we tackle this question, let’s back it up for a minute. What does it mean to be a Christian?
Gospel
Changed and saved by God’s grace through faith in Christ
Jesus changes His people
We don’t get to put qualifiers up before our identity in Christ
Example: I’m not a “Missouri Christian” and my dad is not an “Oklahoma Christian” we’re both Christians
You’re not a young Christian and your grandparent isn’t an old Christian, you’re both Christians
Think about our sins: You don’t have a prideful Christian and a lustful Christian
We can’t put qualifiers before our salvation and identity in Christ!
Galatians 3:27–28 CSB
27 For those of you who were baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ. 28 There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male and female; since you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Let’s look at some Scripture passages that talk about this
Romans 1:18–32 CSB
18 For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth, 19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse. 21 For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles. 24 Therefore God delivered them over in the desires of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served what has been created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen. 26 For this reason God delivered them over to disgraceful passions. Their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 The men in the same way also left natural relations with women and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty of their error. 28 And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a corrupt mind so that they do what is not right. 29 They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 senseless, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful. 32 Although they know God’s just sentence—that those who practice such things deserve to die—they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.
1 Corinthians 6:9–10 CSB
9 Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or males who have sex with males, 10 no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom.
Jude 7 CSB
7 Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns committed sexual immorality and perversions, and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.
Genesis 1:26–31 CSB
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.” 27 So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female. 28 God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.” 29 God also said, “Look, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the surface of the entire earth and every tree whose fruit contains seed. This will be food for you, 30 for all the wildlife of the earth, for every bird of the sky, and for every creature that crawls on the earth—everything having the breath of life in it—I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good indeed. Evening came and then morning: the sixth day.
Old Testament Law
Leviticus 18:22 CSB
22 You are not to sleep with a man as with a woman; it is detestable.
Leviticus 20:13 CSB
13 If a man sleeps with a man as with a woman, they have both committed a detestable act. They must be put to death; their death is their own fault.
Matthew 19:4–6 CSB
4 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that he who created them in the beginning made them male and female, 5 and he also said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
Baptist Faith and Message 2000:
God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. It is composed of persons related to one another by marriage, blood, or adoption.
Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race.
