*R.E.A.C.H. Program*
*(Reaching Excellence at Church and at Home)*
On September 1, 2004, Eastside began a challenge to our children and teens (ages 4 through 18) to meet certain spiritual objectives appropriate for their age through a program referred to as R.E.A.C.H.
As the acronym implies, we expect the children to strive or “reach” for excellence relating to spiritual matters in the areas of memory and scholarship, service and outreach, and worship and creativity.
(This program is an adaptation of one used by the Westlake Church of Christ in Indianapolis.)
The R.E.A.C.H. program will run parallel with the school semesters, September through December, and January through May.
Each grade level has its own set of challenges.
These challenges, described on separate pages for each grade level, are available in a rack in the hallway entrance to the fellowship room.
As parents and teachers, please accept the responsibility of motivating our children to complete their tasks.
Students may complete the tasks in one semester or use the entire school year (September through May).
*How Does the Program Work?*
Throughout the week at home and sometimes for a few minutes during Bible class, the children will work on one requirement at a time.
When they master *each requirement*, they will have an opportunity during Bible class on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening to present it to the R.E.A.C.H. council.
Students *should not* wait until they have finished all challenge requirements for their grade level to make a presentation of what they have done to the R.E.A.C.H. council.
The R.E.A.C.H. council is made up of four interested adults who will hear and acknowledge the children as they accomplish each task..
The council will keep a log of the children's progress throughout the semester.
Children who have completed satisfactorily all of the tasks for their grade level will be acknowledged before the congregation during Sunday morning worship and presented with a gift from the church.
Recognition times will be scheduled in January and June.
*Our Plea *
It is our intention in the Education Department at Eastside, to provide a biblical, systematic, yet creative approach to the spiritual education of our children.
We are striving to offer the children our very best teachers and curriculum.
However, the success of this program will not be dependent on our teachers or our curriculum; it is dependent on you, the parents.
Please take an active role at home in assisting your children to meet their R.E.A.C.H. objectives throughout the school year.
We look forward to seeing the smiles on their faces when they achieve success; but more than that, we look forward to seeing the fruits they will produce as a result of an increased understanding of God's love and wisdom.
We will be grateful for your assistance in helping your children succeed in this program.
