INTRO

Somehow, God chooses to co-rule with HUMANS.
Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing Chapter 2—The Beatitudes

The object of God in choosing a people before all the world was not only that He might adopt them as His sons and daughters, but that through them the world might receive the grace that bringeth salvation.

God doesn’t just give you belonging. He also gives you purpose.

BODY

Context: Matthew 1-5 (The Kingdom of God)
Text: Matthew 5:13-16.
Salt
Why salt?
Preservation.
Personal contact.
Love if the flavor.
A warning: Unsalty Salt
This was not a scientific.
Matthew (2. Paradigmatic Preaching: The Sermon on the Mount (5:1–7:29))
This is not the scientifically impossible notion of salt becoming flavorless but rather the common problem in the ancient world of salt being mixed with various impure substances and therefore becoming worthless as a preservative.
If we try to mix LOVE with something else, Love becomes useless.
Legalism
Service without love is tasteless.
Mission without love is tasteless.
Evangelism without love is tasteless.
May we love the way Jesus teaches us to love.
Light
Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing Chapter 2—The Beatitudes

Christ’s followers are to be more than a light in the midst of men. They are the light of the world.

No more Hiding
Objection: But how can God use me?
2 Corinthians 4:7.
Let YOUR light shine.
