Romans 12-Sacrifice of Worship
Where in Romans chapter 12, guys, this is where I have been longing to get two for the better part of a year. As we've been studying, Romans together, I love Romans. I loved the entire book of Romans. We have just gone through some of the greatest teaching on the doctrine of eternal life. The doctrine of salvation, that the world has ever known. The greatest explanation of the Gospel is the Book of Romans, but the game chapter 12, we begin to find some practical application for the life of an already safe. Person in the gospel. So we're going to we're going to spend a great deal of time, just going through these chapters more slowly and trying to find out, how should I be different now that I'm safe? And that brings us to the true offering of worship. Romans chapter 12 begin with this. Thought that there is a proper gift to bring God. You remember, back in the days of Cain and Abel, the first two people born on planet Earth. The sun's the twin Sons most likely of Adam and Eve, they came to present themselves before the Lord in 1 rod and offering that was a lamb. And another one, tried to offer up his best, the other offered instead, a portrait of the innocent dying for the guilty, There was a proper offering to bring God. Well, now that I'm older and should I bring with me? What offering should I bring with me to go see what's up? If you received the link to the faith, wife Hebron Church cave, which I send out to everyone. In the group Facebook message, you can actually see all the way I know. It's like you're trying to take pictures and services which I don't blame you for. I do the same thing when I'm watching the presentation, but we made it easier by switching to Proclaim. You can actually all of them and not be like Self in Romans 12:1 by the mercies of God that you present your bodies, a Living Sacrifice.
Acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. What is that good? And the Will of God. Rice-A-Roni.
But to think soberly according as God has dealt to every man, The Measure of Faith. Well, that's a lot. Yeah, I usually try to get through more than 3 verses in a book study and on a given Sunday. But this time these three verses that really set the stage for these 5 chapters, we're going to spend some time in together. So sacrifice of worship. I also want you to take note, though. In the first verse of Romans 12. the first verse of the fifth part of Roman the fourth word, In the first verse. Beautiful. Therefore, so call has just gone through in Romans chapter 12, Romans chapter 11. An incredible explanation of the doctrine of eternal life. In Jesus Christ, the doctrine of salvation the technical aspects of how our Salvation works.
We looked at in Romans chapter 1, through the first part of Romans Chapter 3, The condemnation of the sons of Adam. All men are Sinners by nature and my main I mean mankind. So that includes the ladies All the Sons and Daughters of Adam and Eve are Sinners by Nature. We're born with it. And we're Sinners by choice. We choose it. All of us that are condemned. For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Our Lord that breezes to justification beginning in the middle part of Romans chapter 3 round burst 21. You will find that the subject changes from you are all deserving of hell too but God but God remember these words, but God, who is rich in Mercy? Justification by faith in the Son of God. And we learned about the blood, sacrifice of the Lord, Jesus died for our sins, the infinite for the finite innocent for the guilty that he might pay the price of sin for everyone of us. And then we learned about sanctification that being set apart to the holy plan of God. We are Sanctified by Grace from God. And then in the last week, we study glorification through the Holy Spirit, God's plan to make every child of God. A full-grown mature in our joint, Heir with Christ. so, okay, we talk about our past. We talk about what Jesus did in the past. We talked about how God wants us to be called and set apart in the present and we talk about what's going to happen to us in the future, in our opening glorification. But how do we make this sanctification process practical in our lives? To wait for activate being set apart to God. And that brings us to part 5 of the book, consecration in the body of Christ. Go hand-in-hand consecration of the sons of God in the body of Christ Church, that's what this section is God in the father's house. Doesn't make sense. but if we are the children of the king, That we should be found in the pallet.
The sons of God in the sons of men, Chapter 13, How do we relate as consecrated Sanctified units or instrument of the kingdom of God? How do we relate to the people who live around us? And I really relate to each other chapter 14. The sons of God.
And what about my place in God's plan as an individual? The sons of God in personal destiny. Chapter 16. The sons of God and the kingdom Saints. What about the Brothers and Sisters in Christ who are not part of this Fellowship? Go somewhere else. How do we relate to them? Going to be a fascinating Journey over the next several weeks and I look forward to it and I hope you do too. Once again, our title is sacrifice of worship and we're going to begin with this question. What kind of offering am I to God? you may recall that in the times of the Old Testament between Moses and Christ between Mount Horeb and Mount Calvary or Mount Sinai Mount Calvary, we may work all the blood sacrifices given In the Tabernacle later in the temple, the people would give blood sacrifices to God and they would bring their sin offering before the Lord in order to prevent themselves to him in 12:1, it says, I beseech. A Living Sacrifice. Holy and acceptable unto God. Take on that. Romans 12:1, I beseech, you, therefore Brethren by the mercies of God, to present your bodies, a Living Sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual surf. That's the American Standard Version. Here's what I find interesting, if you are nearly identical in both translations but here it says your reasonable service in here. It says your spiritual so
It's fascinating because actually, they're both, right? And they're both missing.
The word translated reasonable rationalized. So what is it that you actually? Oh God.
What, what is it that God says you owe him?
Oh God. Do you own an hour on Sunday and you're good for the week? Oh God. Only those things that you think.
Do you owe more? Then you owe anyone else. When you're talking about what kind of offering to bring to God, what is a reasonable or rational offering? What is a reasonable or rational offering? The question, isn't it? How many of you have ever asked? God that question, what should I bring?
But it says service. And when I think of service as a Christian two things come to my mind, we noticed ever notices plural what time are services at evening worship. Wednesday night, bible study prayer meeting on Thursday and you know, visitations on Tuesday or Saturday or something like that Services. What times are your services? Another basic concept of Christian service serving God serving others. That's what I think of but interesting Lee enough. This work service has any idea. Oven offering of worship to God. And it's the very same word that was used in the Old Testament. It when they translated it into grief, they use this word to describe the activities of the priests in the temple going about their Ministry. So when they said okay we're going to, we're going to be you're going to be the one who gets to do the sacrifice of incense on the incense off of a. You're going to be the one to be the one. Who does this mean, you're going to be the one who bakes the showbread. And you're the one for switch over at on the table.
Where describe with this Greek word when the Jews translated the Old Testament in the Greek in the Septuagint. A couple hundred years before the New Testament. And it's interesting because when you read the New Testament, you'll find that a lot of the things that that they, that they took from the Septuagint. And they brought it into the New Testament. Help us to understand the author's point of view on what the words mean. So as the Servants of God in the house of God, ministering about holy things, our spiritual act of worship that is reasonable to perform, is to present ourselves as a Living Sacrifice living as opposed to write Jesus died for us. That's how that's how he open up. He gave himself, he died for us. It may be. it may be that living for Jesus will ultimately cost you your physical at you could base that today when you are in Durant,
You're more likely to face death for following Jesus if you're serving Jesus in a different country. Like, say Saudi Arabia, Right. There are places like North Korea. Where it's very dangerous to be vocal in your face for Christ. But it does happen. You could die for your face. But the plan of God for every Christian is not necessarily to die for their face.
But it is the plan of God, for every Christian that we give Jesus our bodies, Our lives, our physical power, we give them to him. As an act of worship. No Kenneth. We handle this and I like weed because he's he's a, he's a very deep thinker. He's a great Theologian and a great expert in the Greek language, expanded translations that bring out things In Living Color that if you, even if you don't understand, the original language you might miss in a translation.
Please brother through the mercies of God by a once for all presentation to place. Your body's at the disposal of God. A sacrifice a living 11. Well pleasing your rational sacred service. Very well done.
I like the fact that it opens with, I therefore beg of you of everything that we have learned about how God's Plan of Salvation Works centrally that Jesus died to save you. Central me that the Jesus called you to be a part of his work visa said, I am at work in the world.
In the word of God says, Paul says to us and another book, other than God was at work in the world, reconciling the world to himself before he came upon you before you before your cat intersected with God's calling. He was already at work in the world, reconciling the world to himself and God says, I want you to be part of that. Because Jesus died for you, when you guys got called you because you have been Sanctified set apart. Now, the consecrated use for Holy purposes. I therefore, I love you. I'm just asking you nicely. I beseech you, I beg of you, please. The power of this word in the original language is in it. The idea of getting down on your knees and begging as if you were begging for bread, for your children, who were starving? I beg of you, please. Brother has to the mercies of God by a once. And for all presentation to place your body at the disposal of God, wants for all presentation. This is an interesting, a verb tense that we don't have an English idea. Is that it means something happens once and it has a result from that once continuing into forever. Punctilio, a single point in time but it affects the future. It's not present your bodies every Sunday, it's not present your bodies every morning. Although those are biblical principles expressed in other places. But his point here is make a determination, make a decision, make a commitment to God, the father and to his son, Jesus Christ. And to God, the Holy Spirit, made a commitment that your body belongs to him to place your bodies at the disposal of God. I once heard about, A story of a missionary who was preaching in Africa on on this topic and at the end of the service was, was their way of doing things. They wouldn't, they would take up an offering in the way they were very different than what you might have seen here in the United States and the gift might be vegetables from the garden. Their gift might be weaned from their fields or gift might be a chicken. Their gift cookies. Have a lot of money. Usually bring what we would think of as cash. They were at Lee live in a bar. So they would bring something to help take care of the ministers in their shirt. This man started crying because he had nothing to eat.
But then he's not back on the message.
as my daughter, Ellie would say, haha Thought of something and it got up and ran to the front and he took the box and emptied it out on the floor and he said it back up, right? As you climbed into the box.
He said, I'm giving me.
I once were all decision. To place your bodies at the disposal of God to do with as he will. I've already given my life to God. So if it means, I have to die. I've already given my life to go. I've already given my body to God, if it means, I have to be taken or imprisoned.
It's at his disposal.
It's to do with that.
And it pleases God to do.
A sacrifice. I really get frustrated. With my brother in the in the ministry. Who say the word sacrifice and then immediately try to redefine it as something other than what it says, sacrifice love doing it.
But it is a sacrifice. There are things you could be doing other than being in church, other than hearing the sermon. They wouldn't do you as much. Good. There are things you couldn't do it. It is a sacrifice, the money that you give to the kingdom of God. It is a sacrifice. Right. I always think it's interesting that, you know, the Bible teaches for 9-10 rule, you know, 10% the first 10%. That is the clear. The first ten percent belongs to God and the rest is for you to do the things you need to do. And everybody hear stories about people who gave 90% to 10% for themselves if they made more money. I've never heard about the the guy who's supposed to give everything to God, it's always somebody with more money than maybe we should stop worrying about what, you know, Bill Gates, that's with his money and just think about what what we can do for somebody. Well, they didn't get very much before. So how would you know that the offering plate in our services? So it's actually, if you want to give you pretty much do it electronically or you born with Jack, or an envelope or whatever to myself, or I will get it to the bank, but how would anyone else? Know what you doing?
We actually try to be somewhat wine. You know, we pastor Joe recordes the offerings so that if anyone needs a tax receipt they can get it at the end of the year. Honestly, if you hand out the check, the only thing we're really looking at it, to make sure it's fine. If you wouldn't believe how many unsigned check, we've taken to the bank over the years.
Right, we don't know rightly, we don't care. We trust that God will take care of the needs of the church. And we allow God to deal with this people individual.
But this is different. This is a different kind of sacrifice. When you get yourself first price. Everything you have comes with it. That means all your minutes or your seconds. All your energy, all your strength.
the words that you say, She belongs to him.
What kind of sacrifice not a dead one?
You don't win the the priest in the temple of God. Would come to the place of the burnt offerings, and people would come and bring their lamb for their turtledove, for whatever they're offering. Was that particular day, there were some requirements and rules had to be perfect.
Couldn't be an animal that you, you know, you would think. Well, you know, all the ones in the block, this is the one that probably is marketable. So let's just go ahead and send that one to the priest. Let's just give God knew what we would throw away.
But a lot of times, isn't that what we do with ourselves? We talked about giving God, our extra money, we talked about him and got our extra time.
You may not even realize just how finite your time really is, but you stopped and thought, about how many seconds do you have left in your life? And that's just assuming that you lived. A normal life span, right? You really don't know if you have 5 seconds left. But let's say for example that I'm almost 50 years old and I'm going to live to be 100 that means that I've already used up half of my second and it really doesn't seem like I've accomplished that much to me. I look back and I'm like yeah, I thought I would have done when I was 49 years old, Thanks.
You really don't have any extra time and God's not asking for extra.
He's asking you to be sacred, he's asking you to be holding, he's asking you to be Sanctified. Consecrated set apart to him. And this is a well, pleasing one.
Whenever I think about the about this, well, pleasing sacrifice. And you know, what I said, does it makes me think about a prophet whose name was Malachi.
They were bringing, they were bringing those leftover, those Surplus, those not the best sacrifices. And they were bringing them to God. And the prophet challenge them and he said, would you bring those to your governor?
Member of the time, the promised land was ruled by the Persian Empire, and the governor was the shot that a regional Governor, which is 90 + 4. Would the emperor Governor over you again? And why would you bring it to God? Like when somebody says, they are vacuum wasn't working, right? So we went bought another one so that, you know, somebody
and I'm not even worried about the vacuum cleaner. If it was straight at something, When you're giving yourself to God. You don't just give God what is left over after you keep of yourself what you want for yourself. When you give yourself to God, you don't just give God, what is left over after you. Keep for yourself, what you want for yourself? Love yourself.
You give God your self.
And that didn't holy well pleasing sacrifice. That is what God calls. Your reasonable service, your reasonable rational service. It's not an extraordinary gift. It's not an extra gift. It's just what you would reasonably think that God is entitled to if he gave his son for me.
And it's a secret service. In other words, this is a spiritual act of worship. Is you worshiping God worshipping God is not something we do only on Sunday morning. Although corporate worship is very important. People are together
Worship is something we do with how we live our lives every single day. So to begin with. Our sacrifice of worship. We should begin by examining. What kind of offering am I to God? Am I am I a sacrifice that is living? Am I giving my body in my life to God? Is it? Holy
I don't know about you, but asking me to be wholly, big ass.
But the holy spirit is the agent of polemics in me and how much power energy in the bility, does the Holy Spirit. More than enough.
More than enough to make me hold, if I will get out of his way. Is it acceptable? Well, please.
What kind of sacrifice?
A living one. A Holy One. And acceptable to God one. Am I an offering of worship?
You know, there's a difference between giving yourself grudgingly and giving yourself worshipful,
How many of you? Got up. 6 times between last Sunday and this Sunday. It said to yourself, good morning. I am ready to worship God today by giving myself to him. By keeping that.
or maybe you're more like me, you Thought about throwing your phone or your alarm clock across the room. And first thing that went through your mind is must have coffee.
Secondly. I need to be like,
Verse two sons and be not conformed to this world. But be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove. What is that? And acceptable and perfect will of God. American Standard says, I like that, too. But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. That you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God brings out a little bit different explanation of the word but conformed and fashioned. Need a water entirely. What's its worth mean? Okay. Ask her, what does the word mean?
Stop assuming an outward expression that does not come from within you, and it's not representative of your intervening. What is patterned after this age, but change your outward Expressions. The one that comes from within and is representative of your inner being by the renewing of your mind, resulting in your pudding to the test. What is the will of God? The good and well, freezing and complete will, and having found a place in your approval. That's interesting. Actually, the word conformed literally means to be poured into a mole. To be made like something else.
you know, from the moment you were born, the world, begin molding, you after its pattern, You can't go anywhere that the messaging of the world isn't molding. On the Billboards. On your social media. On television on radio in your podcast. On other people's t-shirts. the way you dress, the way you walk, the way you think, You are being patterned after a mole. You are being made to think look and sound like everyone around, you everyday. What night? I know, I know.
you're the only one on earth is immune to this, but Maybe you're not that special. Really, we're going to talk about that. Maybe you're not that special. Maybe it works on you just like it works on me. It works like everyone else because we don't know what's happening. It's happening. So subtly and yet, so overwhelmingly. We don't even realize we're being programmed.
And it's were transformed. Metamorpho. It's the word from which we get metamorphosis. Is a? Is a butterfly, a flying caterpillar or is a caterpillar a crawling butterfly.
In the Cocoon. Does it become a different creature or does its nature become reveal? This is the same word used in the gospels when it's translated transfigured. And it's talking about Jesus,
Jesus, wept, most of the Apostles down the hill. And you took a very few with him up and he said, I'm going to show you something. Or maybe he didn't say anything at all. That come with me and you need to know why. and, by the way, that's not a new Phenomenon with Millennials or genze for the Alphas,
I kid you not. This was going on before any Millennials were born. I know I was there. We have this natural attitude of demanding an explanation before we will just do what we're told.
Or how about when you're told not to do something because I said, so no really why? Because I said so Christians and say because I said so when the opposite word of God, says it all four gospels, he was transfigured before them And they have the right away because you started shining and glory in this incredible veil was lifted. And you saw a glimpse just a tiny glimpse of the God within the man.
Jesus didn't come something else. She just simply Glory. That was always in him. That's what this word means. Child of God. You're not the person you look like anymore. You might work like everyone else on the outside but inside You're Something Different. Something more.
According to the mold look like everyone else, when you're not that anymore, you already gone through the Cocoon. You've already come out of the Cocoon of race and you've already been made a new creature. Let the world seed. Holy spirit Power. Be transformed. What does renewed mean?
Star Trek everybody.
Have you? Amber wants one of those home improvement shows and CC like house flippers go in and they're like knocking out walls and pull it out. Counters and 75.
Renovated. Yeah, that is exactly what this word mean. It means to make something as though it were new again. The renewing of your mind. Midday shopping. You got the walls in your head.
You got some stuff taking up space between your ears that just needs to go to the top.
In your mind, the needs to be Martha broken up, taken out out of the way so that the new Hindi film. On the foundation of Christ. You need to be renewed. To renovate.
Who am I made to be light? This is what an offering of worship mean. I am made in the image of God. In the greatest spiritual act of worship that I can reach my father in my character. In my best behavior. You my actions in my attitude, in my priority. What comes first? Seriously. What gets done, just what comes first, right?
I have all demonstrated a bit coming to church on the Lord's day was a top priority for you. I would like to say, though, that just because it was top of the list. First priority, I'm grateful that you didn't do it. First thing, I'm grateful that you didn't roll out of bed and immediately get in your car and drive to church without brushing. Your teeth are taking a shower. Maybe take a shower before you come here. Are. Sometimes it's better that way.
Getting dressed putting on some deodorant you know maybe even had breakfast, or do you like me? You drank your breakfast in the coffee cup?
Appreciate that just because it comes first, doesn't mean it happens, first, right?
when you were first created in the image of God, And then you were born in the image of Adam falling man. Falling person. We live in a fallen world and sometimes. Alzheimer.
But then you were taken into this cocoon. Discipleship. beginning with getting saying,
Culminating getting baptized and beans, hot. What God wants from. And you've been transformed by a creative act at the moment of salvation. And then buy a transformative process in discipleship. You've been transformed. Metamorphosize.
Now.
Renovate your mind.
Get rid of the thoughts. Get rid of the wall. Get rid of the old, make way for the new and that that my friends.
Which brings me to the last thing verse 3. Who do I see?
Sacrifice of worship. Who do I see myself?
The grace given unto me to every man. That is among them.
What does a snowbird?
The Measure of Faith.
Everyone. Which one ought to necessarily? 3 seconds with a View to a sensible appraisal to each one.
Who do I see? Who I see myself as You know the first question do I think too much of me?
I will be candid. I have found generally speaking, but it's true of most people. Does the average person thinks far more of their opinion.
How many rebounds? Everybody's got. Is there something you don't have an opinion about all I have to do is tell you about it. You don't have it.
Because dying is what the opinionated. And humans are opinionated. Or the fact.
I'm simply saying be careful that you don't think too highly of yourself.
because we have this idea sometimes, but if anyone disagrees with us, Weather in the Southlake Mall. Like you know, what's the best car brand? Which is the best basketball team. When is the high school in our town is better than the high school in the next town? Probably depends on which you know which one you went to.
Or, you know, we have differences of opinion over things that happen in our culture, right? We, we watch the news.
Is it by arguing about it? We're going to fix it.
Do I think too much?
Do I go to church? And think me and everybody else would follow his lead? That would show that our church had good leadership.
We go to work and we think I can just make it so many better ways we can connect.
And you know what? Just might be, right? You just might be wrong.
according to God, the measure of
What does space have to do with my opinion of me? Let me ask you a question.
Do you believe in God?
Dawn has said some pretty. you know, starting with things like your Center You know, you're you're such a sinner that you need the death of God Satan. It is also said that you are pretty remarkable. Right. You are empowered by the Holy Spirit, the spirit that energizes creation itself. Universe runs on holy spirit Power. That's the energy that energizes your spirit and your life force and your ability to be a holy act of worship consecrated. Do you think highly enough of yourself?
Soberly.
What is the sensible? It is just as wrong. Not to believe what God says about you. As it is to believe your own hype. Right. Don't believe your own height but believe everything. Got this.
Do I believe What God Says?
With this Foundation.
I'm a spiritual act of worship. I am a living sacrifice with this Foundation. Screws about each of us, who are children of God. First of all, what kind of offering am I? Am I This is kind of offering. That is what I claim to be a living. One, only one and acceptable unto God. Am I an offering of worship? Who am I made to be like, Who do I see myself at? We need to be like a my poured into the mold of the world. Transformed am I letting the world? See who I really am? I
Am I parting out the old, and letting Jesus do. Am I an offering of worship? Who do I see myself ass?
Do I think you wanted me to me? What is the sensible view of me? Do I believe what God says about me? With that Foundation, we're going to see. Consecration of the sons of God in the body of Christ, Body of Christ Church.
Not something called Peter.
A local assembly. A body of Believers gathered together. The sons of God and the father sets. That's next week coming up in the weeks to come the sons of God and the sons of God in the weaker brother. The sons of God and personal Destiny, and the sons of God in the Kingdom.
any questions before we separate.
Very good.
If your husband would you dismiss us in prayer?
Oh Sister, Jen husband.
