I. Christians Attitude towards: Government (Romans 13:1-7).
a. Vs. 1 “Let every soul be in subjection to the higher power.”
i. NKJV- to governing authorities.
b. Vs. 1B “For there is no power but of God: the powers that are ordained of God.”
i. KJV said ordained- Instituted, established, or appointed is the idea.

ii. While a lot of people Christians do not agree with decision our government makes, we are subject to obey them. Every soul. No one left out. What would our country be like without Government? We think our is bad think about the Roman government at time Paul is speaking.
c. Vs. 2A “Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God:”
i. Who ever resists government than resists God!!!

d. Vs. 2B “and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.”
i. NKJV- Those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
e. Vs. 3A “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil.”
i. Terror- meaning alarm or frighten. The government does not throw people in prison, give the death penalty to scare the good law abiding citizens, they make judgements in a court to punish wicked people. But also to scare others who do the same evil things.
f. Vs 3B “Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:”
i. The question of the power- is Gods Power seen in vs 1.
ii. We do good, by being law abiding citizens obeying law of land and Gods law than we will have praise of government power and God.

g. Vs.4A “For he is the minister of God to thee for good.”
i. The he is government powers. Why do we have laws? For us to do good.
h. Vs. 4B “But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”
i. Again the he is the government powers which execute wrath judgement to those who do evil.
what would our country be like without government?????
i. Vs. 5 “Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.”
i. Notice the wherefore- Therefore. Look what I have told you of how Governing powers are authorized by God. Now you need to be in subject to them!!!
ii. Not only because of wrath: punishment to come.
iii. But also for your conscience sake.
j. Vs. 6 “For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.”
i. The tribute is taxes. Who in here loves paying taxes.
ii. Luke 20:19-26
1. Vs. The chief priests and scribes scared to punish them tried to set him up and have him brought before the government by saying is it lawful to pay taxes?
2. They hit Him with a loaded question!!!
a. Yes- than His followers would be turned away being pro-Roman.
b. No- He would accused of tax evasion by Romans.
3. Jesus responds you pay your taxes you owe to Cesar and you pay also what you owe to God!!
k. Vs. 7
i. “Render therefore to all their dues:
ii. tribute to whom tribute is due; Caesar- God
iii. custom to whom custom;
iv. fear to whom fear; Ephesians 6: Servants fear masters!! Matt 10:28.
v. honour to whom honour.”
l. Why do we submit and obey our government and pay taxes???
i. Because God said so and because it is good.
ii. James 4:17!!
m. When do we not obey the laws of the land??
i. Examples:
1. Acts 5:27-29
2. Daniel 3 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego told to worship golden image.
3. Daniel 6- Daniel when a decree was made not to make a petition of any God or man for thirty days, what did Daniel do?
4. Heb 10:24-25 What should we do if??????
5. Saul- 1 Samuel 15:22-25 Purposeful violation of the law is sin.
6. When driving down the road and seeing a 75 MPH sign do we need to obey it??? Rom 6:1
n. Questions from the text:
i. Where do governments get there authority in verse 1? God
ii. What happens if we resist the government in verse 2? We resist God and bring damnation on ourselves.
iii. What is one major responsibility of government in verse 4? To avenge the evil doer
iv. What motivates Christians to submit to government in verse 5? Wrath, and conscience
v. What else is required toward government in verse 6-7? Paying taxes
II. Christians Attitude towards: The Law (Romans 13:8-14).
a. Vs. 8 “Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.”
i. Vs 7 render and tribute to whom is due. We not to owe anybody and if we do than we need to make things right and pay them.
ii. But is the only thing we are to owe each other? Love
iii. Matt 22:39-40
b. Vs. 9 Read them!! Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself!!
i. Summarizes what Jesus covered on Sermon of the mount.
ii. What Jesus says in Matt 22 with the gretest commandment.
iii. And summarizes up the 10 commandments in Deut 20
c. Vs. 10 “Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”
i. We can never do wrong loving our neighbvor.
ii. After all like Jesus say in Matt 5:16.
d. Vs. 11 Its Time to wake up.
e. Vs. 12 Its time to get dressed. Christian dress code Eph 6
f. Vs. 13-14 Its time to go to work. Putting on Jesus takes a lot of work. Study!!
g. Make no provisions for the flesh!!:
h. Ropers commentary: Ask yourself what your spiritual weaknesses are, u need to known because the devil knows them. Than ask what people, places, activities, situations mostly encourage me to my temptations. Once you answer those questions than stay away from those people, places, activities, and situations to make no provision for the flesh.
i. Do not set your self up for failure, when becoming a Christian we need to take out the trash, get any garbage out of your life which could cause you to stumble.
j. Questions:
i. What one thing do we all owe each other from verse 8? Love
ii. What are we to put on in verse 12-14? Armor of light, our Lord Jesus Christ.
iii. What are we not to provide opportunity for? Making provisions for the flesh to fulfill lust of.
III. Christians Attitude towards: The Weak (Romans 14:1-13).
