Review - Introduction to Revelation

In our beginning study we used the Bible to “Rightly Divide” the book of Revelations into three sections.
1st. Revelation 1-3 Chapter 4 begins with the heavens opening and someone going up… John.
2nd Revelation 4-19 Chapter 19:11 we again see the heavens open, and someone comes down… Christ
3rd Revelation 20-22 Events leading to and the fulfillment of eternity. New Heaven, New Earth...
God told John that there were three sections, Rev. 1:19 - which thou hast seen, which are, which shall be...
Remember we talked about the perspective that John was writing from?
Revelation 1:10 KJV 1900
I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
From this vantage point, “on the Lord’s day, John sees the past (church age), present (tribulation), future (Millennium, New heaven & earth, eternity.)
It is the Revelation of Jesus Christ (Rev. 1:1) It is John’s Record (Rev. 1:2), and there is a Reward of the book! (1:3)

The purpose of the book. (Rev. 1:1)

Revelation 1:1 KJV 1900
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

The Transmission of the book. (Rev. 1:1)

Revelation 1:2 KJV 1900
Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

God the Father -> God the Son -> Angel -> John

The Blessing of the book. (Rev. 1:3)

Revelation 1:3 KJV 1900
Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

He that Readeth, they that Hear, those that Keep

Today:

The Greeting of the book. (Rev. 1:4-6)

1. The “Gift” God wants to GIVE to man: Grace and Peace.

This gift is given by God through John...

John: The Apostle:

These verses begin with the name John, identifying for us the penman of these words. The is the Apostle John, the one whom Jesus loved… That is because John is the one who loved Christ, He was the one that laid his head on the chest of Christ, and I believe heard the very heart beat of God! (We have that in our Bible) He is the one that when everyone else was asking, John said, who is it Lord… Signifying that he could not discern who it was but was certain it wasn’t he himself. In giving these words to John, Jesus used the man that had the relationship that he wants of us to have! What an example.
It is given to...

The Seven Churches which are in Asia:

This is what we call “Asia Minor” and would be found in modern day Turkey. We must understand that these are 7 literal churches, but why just 7? The Bible tells us there were more than 7 churches in this region… Colosse was just 7 miles from Laodicea. In Colossians 4:13 Paul writes about the church in Hierapolis. In Acts 20:6-6 The church of Troas was also in this region… So, why 7?

The number 7 is the number of Completion.

Remember the theme of the Bible message? - Number 7 we showed was that which was complete and perfect and when a God who is complete and perfect counts He doesn’t count as we do… We count by 10’s but He counts 1-7.
7 days, 7 musical notes, 7 colors of the rainbow - It is all through creation.
Here it represents 7 literal churches, it represents 7 types of churches that have been and will be, it represents 7 periods of church History, which starts in the book of Acts and ends here in Revelation.
We would have to have been half a sleep to read the “Bible” and not see the significance of the number 7.
7 - days, weeks, months, weeks of years, decades, and millenniums.
In the Final Book - 59 times
7 - Churches, golden candle sticks, Spirits, lamps of fire, starts, sealed book, lame w/ 7 horns, and eyes, 7 seals, 7 golden viles that contain 7 plagues, Beast with 7 heads, and dragon with 7 heads, 7 crowns, there are 7 mountains, and 7 kings.
This isn’t a coincidence:

Grace: The book of Revelation is the book where everyone finally receives what they deserve.

The devil...

Revelation 20:10 KJV 1900
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Sinful man...

Revelation 16:1 KJV 1900
And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.

Peace: The book of Revelation seems a far cry from the book of Peace.

We see, bloodshed, strife, violence, devastation, famine, pestilence, woe, and tribulation… But the ending brings an eternal reign of peace unknown to man or the world!
Revelation 19:6 KJV 1900
And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
We said everyone finally receives what they deserve but we left who people out...

Christ...

Revelation 11:15 KJV 1900
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

Christ finally receives what he deserves!

Isn’t it interesting that the book that unveils for us is the book that offers “Grace” and “Peace”

It is the book that we see everyone receive what they deserve, except for us...

Blessed is he that readeth the words, they that hear the words, and they that keep those things which are written therein.

This offer of “grace and peace” comes from God the Father. (Rev. 1:4)

This offer of “grace and peace” comes from God the Holy Spirit. (Rev. 1:4)

7 Spirits?

Before the throne.

Revelation 3:1 KJV 1900
And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.

They take the appearance of seven lamps of fire burning.

Revelation 4:5 KJV 1900
And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

They are the eyes sent forth.

Revelation 5:6 KJV 1900
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

Compare Scripture with Scripture:

They go “to and fro”.

Zechariah 4:10 KJV 1900
For who hath despised the day of small things? For they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; They are the eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

To shew himself strong.

2 Chronicles 16:9 KJV 1900
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.
Perfect standing is not something that you achieve, it is something you receive through the work of Christ!
Doesn’t the Bible speak of just “One Spirit”?
Ephesians 4:4 KJV 1900
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV 1900
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

The Scripture never contradicts:

Isaiah 11:1–2 KJV 1900
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, And a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and might, The spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;

We see in this verse seven working ministries of the Spirit of the Lord!

So, is there seven or is there one? YES!

The 7 - dovetail together and show us His perfect completeness!

This offer of “grace and peace” comes from God the Son...

“The Faithful Witness...” (Rev. 1:5)

He bore witness of the Character of God.

He bore witness to the Word of God.

“The First Begotten of the Dead… (Rev. 1:5)

“The Prince of the Kings of the Earth.” (Rev. 1:5)

2. The response God wants to Receive from Man: Glory and Dominion. (Rev. 1:6)

He Loved us. (Rev. 1:5)

He Washed us. (Rev. 1:5)

He Exalted us. (Rev. 1:5)
