Luke 5:4–6 NKJV
4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” 6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.

Confession of Faith

I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith! In Jesus Name

Intro:
There is a quote from Booker T. Washington
"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome." - Booker T. Washington
Today I want to talk to you today about how important it is to try again. Life isn't always easy, and sometimes we might want to give up. But as Christ Followers, as disciples of Jesus Christ the bible teaches us to keep going and never give up hope. In Luke 5:1–11, this is the story of Jesus Disciplining his students! The story of Jesus telling his students to "try again"! The reminder to each of us to day to never give up !
Luke 5:1 NKJV
1 So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,
In this chapter we find Jesus on a mission! He is on a boat, in a lake preaching! Preaching where the fishermen have been out trying to catch fish! But Jesus’s mission was to catch men and women! He was catching them for God. But he realized he couldn’t do it all by Himself. He needed help! He needed help from everyone who wanted to follow Him.
Luke 5:2–3 NLT
2 He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. 3 Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.
Watch this - In order to catch people for God, Jesus needed resources! He had to find a way to deal with all the people. Because there were so many people and so many things they needed, He just couldn't handle the chaos. He couldn't meet everyone's wants. As he stood there and thought about the problem at hand, he looked for a way to solve it.
He saw a boat, and a fisherman in it, and He needed both. He asked Simon if He could use the boat as a place to preach and if he could take the boat a short distance away from the shore. The point is that Jesus took advantage of what was there and made use of it. Sometimes you just got to use what you have! He saw that people needed God's Word, but He didn't have a platform or any helpers, so He looked around and found both.
Rosa Parks said this "I have learned over the years that when one's mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear."
Luke 5:4–5 NKJV
4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
Jesus ended his sermon then he said to Simon let you nets down for a catch and Simon said - I have been fishing all night long and caught nothing - But Jesus said Try Again
Try again - I have tried everything to be successful - Try Again
I have tried everything to fix the problem - Try Again
I have tried to go back to school - Try Again
I have tried to lose weight - Try Again
I have tried to do what’s right - Try Again
I have tried to love my spouse - Try Again
I have tried to get out of debt - try Again
I have been there and done that and been disappointed - Try Again
Now when we look at the text Simon, just like you and I when Jesus tells us to do something - even if we have done it before - we start operating in what I call Reluctant Obedience!
Hear me now, Simon called Jesus master, he said master we have been fishing all night long and have caught nothing
Watch this:
Jesus is about to do something in Simon that he wants to do in you and me! Hear me now, Jesus is about to humble Simon! He is about to show Simon that he can look after him, that he can take care of him, that he can provide for him, that he can protect him and that he can give him the desires of his heart! What’s the Catch
All Simon had to do and all we have to do is be obedient to the Word that Jesus has given to you!
We have to stop objecting to Jesus based on our past efforts! We must stop objecting to Jesus based on our past disappointments,
past failures, past and current insecurities, past and current fears
Simon pushed back at Jesus because he had fished all night and had caught nothing. Simon was tired, Simon was disappointed, Simon had worked enough hours already, Simon had done the best he could do and got nothing in return for it! He was ready to go home, he was tired of being out there giving his all and receiving nothing! But remember he had already loaned Jesus the boat to preach in - how many of us today have said - I’ve done all I can do
Does that ring a bell - am I talking to someone
But he stopped right in the middle of his objection and obeyed Jesus. Try Again
“ nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
Simon - Said at Your Word, Lord Because You said It, Lord because I know who you are, You are Jireh, my provider at your Word, I will
Because of your word I will, Simon had to stop in the middle of his reluctant obedience and obey his conscience! He had to follow his heart, not his mind, thinking there were no fish, not his experience, having already tried and failed to catch fish, not his body, being too tired and exhausted, just incapable of going on.
Lord, At Your Word - I will Try Again
Even if you don't want to do something, you should always do it. We need to have the kind of spirit that will try for God no matter how hard things are or how hopeless things look.
When a person is a Christ Follower he or she needs to follow his heart right away and with all his or her might.
Maya Angelou "We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated."
1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Try Again
Luke 5:6 NKJV
6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.
Simons obedience got him results. He caught fish, and they weren't just any fish. It was much more than that. It was so much more than that - Now there was no doubt about Jesus. Jesus did the miracle. He did it to show how powerful God is.
Peter's net broke. He had to call another whole crew and boat to help. Both boats were full to the brim. Then, to make things even worse, both boats started to sink.
Ephesians 3:20–21 NKJV
20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
So hear me now, The first thing we should learn is to always be ready to try again. Simon and his friends fished all night, but they didn't catch anything. They could have just given up and gone home, but they didn't. When Jesus told them to throw their nets out again, they did as he said, and they caught a huge haul of fish. This is a warning that we should never give up, even if we fail. We should be ready to try again and believe that God can do miracles in our lives.
The second thing we should learn is that Jesus is powerful and holy. Simon fell down on his knees when he saw how many fish they had caught. He realized that Jesus was holy and powerful. We should also know how powerful Jesus is in our lives and come to Him with respect and humility.
The third thing I learned is that everyone has a higher mission. Jesus told his followers to go out and catch people and tell them about the good news of the gospel. We are all called to this task as Christians Followers. We are called to tell others about Jesus' love and truth, to be His hands and feet in the world.
So, how can we use these lessons in our everyday lives?
We should first never give up. Even if we've failed in the past, we should be ready to try again and believe that God can do miracles in our lives. We should never give up on our goals or dreams or lose hope. Instead, we should keep going after them.
Second, we should come to Jesus with awe and humility. We should be aware of His power and holiness and try to live in a way that shows our respect for Him.
Third, we should accept that God has called us to be fishermen. We should tell people about the love and teachings of Jesus and try to change the world through what we say and do.
In the end, the story of Jesus telling His disciples to try again is a powerful reminder that we should never give up and always believe in God's power to do miracles in our lives. We should realize that Jesus is powerful and holy, and accept our calling to be fishers of people. May God Bless You And Keep You Is My Prayer
