Genesis 4:1-10
*Our first idea or concept of an offering is by God.
Matter of fact, offering and sacrifice was so effective that the enemy mimicked it and tried to dilute it with perversion.
*This is our first time seeing in HD God’s characteristics. His likes and dislikes. We see what’s acceptable and not acceptable.
God accepted Abel’s offering and not his brother Cain’s.
-Let’s go back to the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve realized what they’ve done, they clothed themselves with “fig leaves” and hid.
-When God said, the day you eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall surely die.
He didn’t mean that they’ll drop dead, He meant that death follows disobedience.
Which reminds me of the scripture 1 Samuel 15:22 “So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.”
They tried to make it right by their own terms. They didn’t know this side of God. They didn’t understand the power of sacrifice and offering.
-God killed an animal and made tunics for them to wear. Symbolizing that if your sins are going to be atoned for and covered that there must be a death.
Now the bible doesn’t say that God sacrificed an animal, but we come to the conclusion that through blood sacrifice sins are atoned for.
So why Abel’s offering and not Cain’s?
Cain didn’t even offer the first fruits of his harvest, but Abel sacrificed not only the firstborn of his flock, but something died and God is attracted to sacrifice within the construct He has set.
Abel was His servant. He was pleased with Abel and accepted his offering.
-Are we offering God a Cain’s offering or an Abel’s offering?
Something that is taxing on the flesh, or not.
Can God work with what we’re offering Him?
-This is something every believer must ask themselves.
Am I giving God my very best, or am I giving God my leftovers?
