more of a smack in the face than an inconvenience
He has two options
say yes = friend of Rome (Pharisees)
say no = Enemy of Rome (Herodians)

the coin was specially minted for taxes to Caesar. One side had “Tiberius Caesar Augustus, son of the Divine Augustus.” and the other Livia and said “Pontifex Maximus (High priest).”
