Read Acts 10. Who is Cornelius? Why do you think he was visited by the angel?
Why do you think God chose food to explain to Peter what is clean and unclean? Leviticus 11.
What did Peter’s sermon declare to the Jews and Gentiles who were gathered together?
What did you once consider “unclean” or taboo or un-Christian that you no longer do? How did God change your mind about this?
Ten years after the conversion of Cornelius’ household, the church faced this question again at what is known as the Council at Jerusalem. Read Acts 15:1-35. Why did the Pharisees want the Gentiles to be circumcised? (See Leviticus 12:1-5 to see about the law of circumcision and purification after birth.)
What did Peter say in his address to the council members? What did Paul and Barnabas say? What ruling did James ultimately make to resolve the matter?
What is the difference between “grace-a-lot” and “grace alone”? Which doctrine were you taught? Where do you fall today on the spectrum of grace-a-lot versus grace alone?
Where are you tempted to have a grace-a-lot mindset when it comes to others? How could you let go of the grace-a-lot mindset in this area of your life?
