I’m a “good person” do I really need salvation?

Romans 3:10 NASB95

10 as it is written, “There is none righteous, not even one;

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

also verse also fits, “I’m such a bad person” (join the club)

So, we all fall short, what’s the big deal?

Romans 6:23 NASB95

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

death is 2nd death, hell . . . that’s why you see “eternal life”

Yes, Jesus actually saves us

What’s the solution, Is there any hope?

8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

for other religions the solution is trying to live better to earn salvation (man reaching up to God)

but God reached down to us (for God so loved the world, that he gave)

How can I be saved? 

Romans 10:9–10 NASB95

9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

confess means agree - agree that he is the Messiah, Christ, Lord of all

big thing for a Jew because Lord was used to describe God

big thing for a Gentile because “Lord” was used to describe Caesar

believe - faith (saved buy grace, through faith)

Will God really accept me? Is it that easy?

11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

this applies to everyone. Everyone who calls on his name to be saved, will be saved

Get used to talking about salvation.

so important to use Scriptures to back up what we say, and not what people have made up over the years

Chapter 12 recap - hard times, scary times (riot), but the lost are being reached.

riot was symptomatic of a bigger problem between England and China, and the two countries were on a verge of war

missionaries got caught up in the political cross fire and received a lot of blame for the tensions between the two countries

throw in some released disgruntled missionaries who are spreading bad info back home.

All of this led to a huge decrease in financial support for the mission work.

but God touched the heart of George Mueller, leader of an orphan ministry in England. He started supporting them, and made up for the financial support they lost

about $10,000 annually ($230,000)

Lesson 1 - The Lord will provide

someway, somehow - even from an unlikely source like a orphan’s ministry that needs all the money it can get for itself, the Lord will provide.

One reason that we give, even though I could easily say, any money given at WMBC needs to stay in house . . . we are called to be givers, and the Lord will provide

speaking of the Lord will provide - a little more about George Mueller.

George Mueller cared for 10,024 orphans during his lifetime. He established 117 schools which offered Christian education to more than 120,000 students

like Hudson Taylor, he believed that all he had to do was pray, and that God would provide.

Example - For example, on one well-documented occasion, thanks was given for breakfast when all the orphan children were sitting at the table even though there was nothing to eat in the house. As they finished praying, the baker knocked on the door with sufficient fresh bread to feed everyone (God had put it on his heart), and the milkman gave them plenty of fresh milk because his cart had broken down in front of the orphanage

By the time of his death, George Mueller’s ministries had received and disburse $140mil. . . . Primarily for supporting the orphanages and schools, but also distributing almost 300,000 Bibles, 1.5 million New Testaments, 250,000 other religious texts, which were translated into twenty other languages.

comes out of obedience, comes out of doing God’s will . . . not just because

God will pay for what he orders!

The Lord will provide for you and what He has called you to do!

Lesson 2 - Just keep working for the Lord

Because of possible war with China, Newspapers are talking about them, other Christians talking about them:

people who have no clue as to what is going on

people coming to conclusions based on a lazy and/or dishonest headlines . . . this is the exact description of social media

Bad things can be said or thought about you: on social media, in church circles, in family circles . . . . Somethings you don’t have the time to fight because you are on a mission from God

in those situations, inform relevant people (people who care, people who really know you like Mr. and Mrs. Berger - their representatives back home in England), let the Lord fight your battles, and keep working for the Lord

Don’t let things distract you from your calling, mission, purpose
