Honor
What does it mean to honor someone or something?
NT term for honor means to hold in esteem, to place value on someone or something. This is how we commonly understand the word.
The OT term kabed gives us an interesting insight into the concept of honor.
The OT term has the basic meaning of “weight.” In a literal sense, it means something can be heavy.
The picture is this....there is weightiness, a heaviness, a worthy to the name and person of God.
Like a heavy weighted object that tips the scales in high favor of the weighted object, there is great worth and value in the weightiness and heaviness of His glory and worth.
I don’t know about you, but I like things that have a solid and healthy weight to them.
Fidget toys - I like the metal ones, verses plastic. The heavy and solid versus the cheap and plastic.
God’s glory, God’s being, God in His person, is THE MOST WEIGHTY and valuable thing there is in all the universe. We are called to HONOR him, to prize him as the greatest possession, the greatest weight, the greatest and most valuable thing in our life.
Like Jesus, who was committed to honoring his Father, treating Him with the great value that He deserves, we should to…every day…in all we do.
This fidget cube, which is yours to keep, I want to be a reminder to you. This is the light, plastic one. Every time you play with it, I want it to be a reminder that you are to place EVEN GREATER VALUE AND WEIGHT upon God. Do not treat God lightly or cheaply like this box, but treat Him with the highest honor.
As well, remember that God calls you to honor you parents and to treat them with value and respect as well because God has placed them in your life to care for you and teach you to love God.
