As you look at Scripture it becomes evident that God speaks to His people with two different forms of speech.
He describes how His creatures should conduct their lives in terms of command promising rewards for obedience and punishment for disobedience. We call this form of speech the LAW.
The LAW:
Is good but only gives rewards to those who obey it!
It is full of consequences and death to those who transgress it!
Life for the righteous & death for the sinner! This means as good as the law is it is not good news! It’s arrival means death of the sinner before a Holy God!
Martin Luther called it the most salutary (producing good effects/beneficial) doctrine of life!
There is another form of speech apart from the law that makes only promises and no demands.
