God’s Goodness!

We have covered:

God’s Infinitude, God’s Immensity

God is infinite, He has no limits, no bounds, no end, no beginning.

* as we continue to dive into the attributes of God we must remind ourselves that every attribute works together in unison as the DNA of Almighty God! His nature, character the very essence of His person.....The Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

Scripture: Psalm 119:68

68 You are good, and do good;

Teach me Your statutes.

Psalm 34:8

8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;

Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

John 10:11 & 14

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep

I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own

It is very crucial for us to know about God’s Goodness and know what kind of God He is.

The key question we must ask ourselves as believers is this:

What is God like?

If you and I are ever going to make an impact in the race God has called us to, to walk in Faith and introduce lost souls to Him. To navigate through this evil and corrupt world....we must ask ourselves this question! **Don’t take it for granted and say, “I already know!”

Christianity throughout history is strong or weak depending upon her concept of God. (WERE DO SEE US TODAY?)

THE BASIC TROUBLE OF THE CHURCH TODAY IS HER UNWORTHY CONCEPTION OF GOD!

The is how the lost world sees us........

Our religion/church is little because our god is little, our religion/church is weak because the god is weak, our religion/church is not honorable in character or purpose because our god is not honorable in character or purpose!

Because we do not see God as He is!

Oh, magnify the LORD with me,

And let us exalt His name together.

Magnify may mean one of two things:

Make it look bigger than it is or see it as big as it is!

Question: Which meaning is the Psalmist referring to?

A local church will only be as great as its conception of God. An individual Christian will be a success or a failure depending upon what he or she thinks of God!

It is critically important that we have knowledge of the HOLY ONE, that we know what God is like!

We can know from scriptures-this is where we go to get our information, but we can also know from nature what God is like: Psalm 19:1

The heavens declare the glory of God;

And the firmament shows His handiwork

IT IS VITAL THAT WE KNOW THAT GOD IS GOOD!

What “GOOD” Means

God is kindhearted, gracious, good-natured and benevolent in intention. We must remember that God is cordial (korjal)

We only think we believe, really! We are believers in a sense, and I trust we believe sufficiently to be saved and justified before His grace. BUT we don’t believe as intensely and as intimately as we should.

If we did, we would believe that God is cordial God, that He is gracious and that His intentions are kind and benevolent. We would believe that God never thinks any bad thoughts about anybody and He never had any bad thoughts about anybody.

Remember our first attribute: INFINITUDE?

It is impossible for God to be anything AND NOT BE COMPLETELY, INFINITELY WHAT HE IS!

Lets explore:

It is possible for the sun to be bright, but not infinitely bright because it does not contain all the light....

It is possible for a mountain to be large but not infinitely large.

ONLY GOD CAN CLAIM INFINITUDE!

So when we say God is good and has a kind heart, it means God has a heart infinitely kind and there is no boundary to it ! And God’s good nature is infinitely good!

God is also Perfect: so He is perfectly Good and Kind!

Remember that God is Immutable, meaning He never changes!

Key Point:

The goodness of God means He cannot feel indifferent about anything. People are indifferent, but not God! God either loves with a boundless unremitting energy or He hates with consuming fire!!

Hebrews 1:9 talks about Jesus Christ:

You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;

Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You

With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”

*The same Jesus that loved with boundless consuming love ALSO hated with terrible consuming fire and will continue to do so while the ages roll.....the goodness of God REQUIRES that God cannot love SIN!

Our reason for living: our next time together we will pick up here....
