Isaiah 42-45

Good evening church! Just a reminder that we are transitioning back to our Growth Groups for the months of May and June, so wherever we leave off tonight, we will pick back up the first week in July and continue on through the summer with our midweek study. I’m excited to get into the Word tonight. Remember that in chapter 40 we transitioned into the second part of this ancient prophecy and the theme of these closing chapters is one of comfort. Chapters 1-39 were much about warning and judgement, so it was a welcome turn of events. And We saw that comfort in chapter 40.
And then we have this section chapters 41-45 that really go together, and the Lord addresses the idolatry of Israel. The folly, and the offense, of worshiping anything or any one than the one and only true and living God.
I don’t want to give a long recap because we have much to cover, but I described chapter 41 as being like the scene in a courtroom with God being the judge. He presents the challenge to them…Isai 40:21
Isaiah 41:21 NKJV
21 “Present your case,” says the Lord. “Bring forth your strong reasons,” says the King of Jacob.
And the chapter goes on to describe the foolishness of men fashioning their own gods, blacksmiths having to pound them into the shape that they want their god to be in. The craftsmen having to peg the god to the floor as is can’t stand strong on it’s own. And these are the things you are going to pray to, to seek counsel from, to pray for deliverance from your enemies to? The chapter ends with this awesome assessment of their false gods…chapter 41 verse 29 Isaiah 41:29
Isaiah 41:29 NKJV
29 Indeed they are all worthless; Their works are nothing; Their molded images are wind and confusion.
So let’s pray and dig in. God, our Father and King...
Chapter 42, remember that there were not chapter breaks in the original scroll. Those were put in there for us, so that we could all be on the same page tonight and you could both hear and see. So chapter 42 is a continuous thought from the last chapter and it begins with the word behold or Look! Isaiah 42:1
Isaiah 42:1 NKJV
1 “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.
So the idea is you guys have your false idols that are worthless, they are wind and confusion, but look! My Servant whom I uphold. Turn away from your foolish idols and turn to the Messiah, the coming Savior, in whom My soul delights. The one that will bring forth justice to the Gentiles. What an awesome verse for those of us that are Gentiles!
Isaiah 42:2 NKJV
2 He will not cry out, nor raise His voice, Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.
What a contrast between Jesus here and the noise of our day. As our political season kicks off and men and women are declaring their candidacy, the noise is increases. It is as if all the real news in the world has stopped. Our news cycle is consumed by it telling us all about those that might be running, and then they break for commercials and those candidates that the news is telling us about come on to tell us about how bad all the other candidates are. The same other candidates that they will be asking us to vote for if they themselves don’t win the primaries.
But about our Savior it says He will not cry out, He won’t raise His voice nor cause His voice to be heard in the street. Jesus would heal somebody, or raise somebody from the dead and then say, Hey, don’t tell anybody… Our world now is all about self promotion. I love verse 3 here, Isaiah 42:3
Isaiah 42:3 NKJV
3 A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth.
A bruised reed He will not break. We recently celebrated palm Sunday here and the kids got little palm branches and their leaves are sort of like reeds. You guys know what reeds are, like a wide grass that blows in the wind. The reed is fine to sway back and forth, but if it gets stepped on, or bent over hard, it doesn’t go back into place. You can see a bruise from at the point of weakness. You or I might then consider it worthless. But not Jesus, He won’t break that off.
And a smoking flax. A flax was something used to start a fire. But just imagine a candle up here like we had as we were in the advent season. At the end of the service each Sunday, one of the Deacons would come up and blow those things out. But after they burned all throughout the service, they wouldn’t always go all the way out. There might be what looked like a little ember on the end. Those guys would lick their fingers and kill it. Sometimes, there would just be smoke coming from the wick and they would leave that, and a couple minutes later is would stop as all flame, smoke, and heat would die out.
This is saying if you are running on fumes. If someone you love is completely burned out and they are barely smoldering anymore, bring them to Jesus! Jesus won’t quench that out, but He will restore, and bring about a new flame. He will bring forth justice for truth. Jesus will not…Isa 42:4
Isaiah 42:4 NKJV
4 He will not fail nor be discouraged, Till He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands shall wait for His law.”
So, we examined your false gods, and now we compare them to the Son of God, the the Messiah, My chosen Servant. Verse 5 Isa 42:5-7
Isaiah 42:5–7 NKJV
5 Thus says God the Lord, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it: 6 “I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles, 7 To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.
Isaiah 42:8–9 NKJV
8 I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images. 9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, And new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
This is amazing! God says compared to your dumb, blind idols that can’t see and can’t speak, I’ve created the heavens, I give breath to the people. And another cool promise for us gentiles, God tells them in verse 6 that I’ve called you Israel in righteousness, I’ll hold you and keep you, unlike your false gods you have to peg up because they can’t stand, I’ll hold your hand. And I’m going to do this as a light to the gentiles that are blind and can’t see.
It will open their eyes, I free people from prison, and turn their darkness to light. That is the ministry of Jesus! Do you guys remember when John the Baptist was in prison, and he became discouraged and started to doubt if Jesus really was the Messiah? He gets thrown in the slammer, and fully expects Jesus to rescue Him, I mean John was His cousin and the forerunner, John was the one that baptised Jesus, but there he sat. Matthew 11:2-5
Matthew 11:2–5 NKJV
2 And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples 3 and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” 4 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: 5 The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
It was this passage that Jesus read in the Synagogue. Luke tells us… Luke 4:16-18
Luke 4:16–18 NKJV
16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
Luke 4:19–21 NKJV
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” 20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
So there is no question here who Isaiah is prophesying about. That is one of the primary purposes of prophecy, that we would hear, then seen, and then believe. That is what God is saying back in verse 9, Isa 42:9
Isaiah 42:9 NKJV
9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, And new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
Your false gods can do nothing, but I will tell you what I am going to do, before I even do it. This prophecy was given some 700 years before Messiah came, and not only did God tell them that He was coming, but here is what His ministry will be like. The only proper response to that is praise and worship, so verse 10…Isa 42:10-13
Isaiah 42:10–13 NKJV
10 Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise from the ends of the earth, You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, You coastlands and you inhabitants of them! 11 Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, The villages that Kedar inhabits. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing, Let them shout from the top of the mountains. 12 Let them give glory to the Lord, And declare His praise in the coastlands. 13 The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies.
God is working among His people…Isa 42:14-17
Isaiah 42:14–17 NKJV
14 “I have held My peace a long time, I have been still and restrained Myself. Now I will cry like a woman in labor, I will pant and gasp at once. 15 I will lay waste the mountains and hills, And dry up all their vegetation; I will make the rivers coastlands, And I will dry up the pools. 16 I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, And crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, And not forsake them. 17 They shall be turned back, They shall be greatly ashamed, Who trust in carved images, Who say to the molded images, ‘You are our gods.’
God tells them He is doing a work, He will lead His people, He won’t forsake them, remember this section is about comfort, but by contrast, those that reject Him and continue to follow their idols they are going to be ashamed of those idols. Now this next part is interesting…verse 18 Isaiah 42:18
Isaiah 42:18 NKJV
18 “Hear, you deaf; And look, you blind, that you may see.
You that can’t hear, hear and you that are blind look and see. Now He already addressed the gentiles, saying He would use Israel so they could see, so He continues on talking to His chosen people Isreal that are blind…Isaiah 42:19-20
Isaiah 42:19–20 NKJV
19 Who is blind but My servant, Or deaf as My messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is perfect, And blind as the Lord’s servant? 20 Seeing many things, but you do not observe; Opening the ears, but he does not hear.”
Seeing but not observing. In order to start to hear, you have to realize your deaf, in order to see, you have to admit you are blind. Jesus does a really great job of both illustrating this and confronting this in the Gospel of John 9:39-41
John 9:39–41 NKJV
39 And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.” 40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, “Are we blind also?” 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your sin remains.
This was in response to Jesus healing a man that had been born blind and they refused to see.
Isaiah 42:21–23 NKJV
21 The Lord is well pleased for His righteousness’ sake; He will exalt the law and make it honorable. 22 But this is a people robbed and plundered; All of them are snared in holes, And they are hidden in prison houses; They are for prey, and no one delivers; For plunder, and no one says, “Restore!” 23 Who among you will give ear to this? Who will listen and hear for the time to come?
Who will listen for the time to come? This is a message for all of the ages, but we have the answer to this question concerning Israel. Did they give ear to this? Did they listen? We can look ahead from when this was written 700 years and we can look back a couple of thousand years from our time and answer than and say, no not really. Some did, a few did, but Israel as a whole has so far rejected Jesus as her Messiah. 24 Isa 42:24-25
Isaiah 42:24–25 NKJV
24 Who gave Jacob for plunder, and Israel to the robbers? Was it not the Lord, He against whom we have sinned? For they would not walk in His ways, Nor were they obedient to His law. 25 Therefore He has poured on him the fury of His anger And the strength of battle; It has set him on fire all around, Yet he did not know; And it burned him, Yet he did not take it to heart.
Chapter 43 Isa 43:1-2
Isaiah 43:1–2 NKJV
1 But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
So remember, this is a section of comfort. Israel, you won’t listen, but you don’t have to fear, You are Mine. Now is verse two really encouraging? Yea though I walk through the valley of Death, you are will me, how about we go somewhere else? God says listen gang the discipline is coming, the fire is coming, but I will be with you through it all.
I do think it comforting actually, because there is a lie in the church today that if you just come to Jesus, all your troubles will be gone. You’ll have cotton candy for breakfast everyday, you’ll drive a Cadillac, and never get cancer. But what happens when you get cancer, or your car breaks down, or you have to walk through fire, or you are in the valley of the shadow of death? You think God left you. Here He says, no I won’t do that, I’ll never do that. I’ll be with you and you’ll be ok and make it through to the other side.
Isaiah 43:3–6 NKJV
3 For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. 4 Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life. 5 Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, And gather you from the west; 6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the ends of the earth—
Interesting passage they will come from the east and the west but He will say to the north, give them up. This has been fulfilled and is continuing to be fulfilled as Israel is repopulated from all sectors of the earth.
Isaiah 43:7–10 NKJV
7 Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” 8 Bring out the blind people who have eyes, And the deaf who have ears. 9 Let all the nations be gathered together, And let the people be assembled. Who among them can declare this, And show us former things? Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified; Or let them hear and say, “It is truth.” 10 “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me.
God says you, Israel are my witnesses, says all capital letters, yeh-ho-vaw' the One true God of Isreal. Verse 11 Isa 43:11
Isaiah 43:11 NKJV
11 I, even I, am the Lord, And besides Me there is no savior.
So again, I the LORD, yeh-ho-vaw' am the savior…in the New Testament Jesus says that he came to seek and to save the lost, at the time of His birth the angels announce the arrival of the Savior. In a couple of weeks in our Sunday morning study we are going to run headfirst into this verse…2 Tim 1:10
2 Timothy 1:10 NKJV
10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,
So how do we reconcile these things? Either Jesus is God or the Bible isn’t true and we have a dead faith and are to be pitied. There are no other options.
yeh-ho-vaw' says I am the Savior… Isa 43:12-13
Isaiah 43:12–13 NKJV
12 I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed, And there was no foreign god among you; Therefore you are My witnesses,” Says the Lord, “that I am God. 13 Indeed before the day was, I am He; And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?”
So before time began, I was, I AM. Who can reverse what I do, no one, no one can stop God.
Isaiah 43:14–15 NKJV
14 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “For your sake I will send to Babylon, And bring them all down as fugitives— The Chaldeans, who rejoice in their ships. 15 I am the Lord, your Holy One, The Creator of Israel, your King.”
So more than a 100 years before Babylon comes and conquers them God says, like two steps ahead, yes they are coming, yes you are being disciplined, but take comfort that is not the end of the story, I am going to bring them down, so don’t loose hope in the fire. Verse 16 Isa 43:16-18
Isaiah 43:16–18 NKJV
16 Thus says the Lord, who makes a way in the sea And a path through the mighty waters, 17 Who brings forth the chariot and horse, The army and the power (They shall lie down together, they shall not rise; They are extinguished, they are quenched like a wick): 18 “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old.
Isaiah 43:19–21 NKJV
19 Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert. 20 The beast of the field will honor Me, The jackals and the ostriches, Because I give waters in the wilderness And rivers in the desert, To give drink to My people, My chosen. 21 This people I have formed for Myself; They shall declare My praise.
God tells them they are His chosen, clearly not as a result of their works, they have been practicing spiritual adultery with their idols. Even in the midst of this comfort, God addresses their sin. Isa 43:22-24
Isaiah 43:22–24 NKJV
22 “But you have not called upon Me, O Jacob; And you have been weary of Me, O Israel. 23 You have not brought Me the sheep for your burnt offerings, Nor have you honored Me with your sacrifices. I have not caused you to serve with grain offerings, Nor wearied you with incense. 24 You have bought Me no sweet cane with money, Nor have you satisfied Me with the fat of your sacrifices; But you have burdened Me with your sins, You have wearied Me with your iniquities.
Again, comfort. God says this is what you have done, and how you have treated Me, yet this is who I AM. Isa 43:25
Isaiah 43:25 NKJV
25 “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.
Who are we to remember when God chosen not to? Are we a higher judge than God? Is His forgiveness not good enough? Walk in the mercy and grace of His forgiveness and receive it fully. Isa 43:26-28
Isaiah 43:26–28 NKJV
26 Put Me in remembrance; Let us contend together; State your case, that you may be acquitted. 27 Your first father sinned, And your mediators have transgressed against Me. 28 Therefore I will profane the princes of the sanctuary; I will give Jacob to the curse, And Israel to reproaches.
Isaiah 44:1–3 NKJV
1 “Yet hear me now, O Jacob My servant, And Israel whom I have chosen. 2 Thus says the Lord who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant; And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. 3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring;
This is a future prophecy for Israel because God did not truly pour out His Spirit on mankind until Jesus ascended to Heaven. The Holy Spirit came upon people in the Old Testament from time to time like David or Saul, but then departed. Isa 44:4-7
Isaiah 44:4–7 NKJV
4 They will spring up among the grass Like willows by the watercourses.’ 5 One will say, ‘I am the Lord’s’; Another will call himself by the name of Jacob; Another will write with his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’ And name himself by the name of Israel. 6 “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God. 7 And who can proclaim as I do? Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me, Since I appointed the ancient people. And the things that are coming and shall come, Let them show these to them.
Who can proclaim as the Lord does? We can’t even determine who is running for president, much less who might win. God again challenges and says if any can proclaim as I do, let him declare it and then make it happen and show me. He continues with the ridiculous folly of idol worship compared to Him, and I’m going to move through this quickly so we can get to the very end.
Isaiah 44:8–11 NKJV
8 Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.’ ” 9 Those who make an image, all of them are useless, And their precious things shall not profit; They are their own witnesses; They neither see nor know, that they may be ashamed. 10 Who would form a god or mold an image That profits him nothing? 11 Surely all his companions would be ashamed; And the workmen, they are mere men. Let them all be gathered together, Let them stand up; Yet they shall fear, They shall be ashamed together.
Isaiah 44:12–15 NKJV
12 The blacksmith with the tongs works one in the coals, Fashions it with hammers, And works it with the strength of his arms. Even so, he is hungry, and his strength fails; He drinks no water and is faint. 13 The craftsman stretches out his rule, He marks one out with chalk; He fashions it with a plane, He marks it out with the compass, And makes it like the figure of a man, According to the beauty of a man, that it may remain in the house. 14 He cuts down cedars for himself, And takes the cypress and the oak; He secures it for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants a pine, and the rain nourishes it. 15 Then it shall be for a man to burn, For he will take some of it and warm himself; Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread; Indeed he makes a god and worships it; He makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.
Isaiah 44:16–19 NKJV
16 He burns half of it in the fire; With this half he eats meat; He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. He even warms himself and says, “Ah! I am warm, I have seen the fire.” 17 And the rest of it he makes into a god, His carved image. He falls down before it and worships it, Prays to it and says, “Deliver me, for you are my god!” 18 They do not know nor understand; For He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, And their hearts, so that they cannot understand. 19 And no one considers in his heart, Nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, “I have burned half of it in the fire, Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it; And shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?”
Isaiah 44:20–23 NKJV
20 He feeds on ashes; A deceived heart has turned him aside; And he cannot deliver his soul, Nor say, “Is there not a lie in my right hand?” 21 “Remember these, O Jacob, And Israel, for you are My servant; I have formed you, you are My servant; O Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me! 22 I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.” 23 Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it! Shout, you lower parts of the earth; Break forth into singing, you mountains, O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob, And glorified Himself in Israel.
Isaiah 44:24 NKJV
24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, And He who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself;
Again, God says I am the LORD who makes all things, and I did it by myself. The gospel of John begins John 1:1-3
John 1:1–3 NKJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Jesus is God.
Isaiah 44:26–27 NKJV
26 Who confirms the word of His servant, And performs the counsel of His messengers; Who says to Jerusalem, ‘You shall be inhabited,’ To the cities of Judah, ‘You shall be built,’ And I will raise up her waste places; 27 Who says to the deep, ‘Be dry! And I will dry up your rivers’;
That is kind of a weird prophecy, especially if you don’t know what happens after this...
Now check this out! Isa 44:28
Isaiah 44:28 NKJV
28 Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd, And he shall perform all My pleasure, Saying to Jerusalem, “You shall be built,” And to the temple, “Your foundation shall be laid.” ’
This is incredible! This is a hundred years before Cyrus was even born! Well before he became king, and God says of this pagan king, He’s My Shepard, he’s a pastor of sorts, maybe not how we think of the King of Persia, but God did. But remember, Cyrus is the one who unites with the Medes, eventually conquers the Babylonians who would destroy Jerusalem and take the people captive. Cyrus would free them and give them permission to return and to begin rebuilding the Temple. Quickly, Cyrus goes from being called a Shepard to being called God’s anointed. Isa 45:1
Isaiah 45:1 NKJV
1 “Thus says the Lord to His anointed, To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held— To subdue nations before him And loose the armor of kings, To open before him the double doors, So that the gates will not be shut:
I love the detail of this prophecy…Isa 45:2-3
Isaiah 45:2–3 NKJV
2 ‘I will go before you And make the crooked places straight; I will break in pieces the gates of bronze And cut the bars of iron. 3 I will give you the treasures of darkness And hidden riches of secret places, That you may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.
I would bet anything that Somebody showed this verse to Cyrus. Can you imagine being him and seeing this?
So back to the details, the waters, or the river being dried up, the gates will not be shut in verse one, the gates will be cut and you will be given the treasures.
Daniel, the book of Daniel writes about the fall of Babylon, but so do secular historians. Now after conquering several cities and peoples the Babylonians simply began fortifying their city. They built great walls, over a hundred feet high, they were so thick you could drive a chariot on top of them. When this is the case, and your enemies can’t prevail against you, there is a tendency to grow fat and happy. The Euphrates river actually flowed right through the center of town, so the gates could be shut. The city was so large that they had great fields within the city limits to grow food, they had plenty of water, so really enemies were not a threat. Nebuchadnezzar was no longer King, by this time, it was his grandson.
So as the Medes grew to power and combined with the Persians and what they did was clever, they diverted the river so it didn’t flow through the city, but it was still crazy to attack them because of the high walls. But Daniel tells us that one night Belshazzar throws a great party.
The secular historian Herodotus tells us that when the river was diverted a small group of guys came in the guards were drunk, they left the gates open and because of this, they were able to conquer the city without destroying the city. It then because part of the Persian empire.
Isaiah 45:4–7 NKJV
4 For Jacob My servant’s sake, And Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name; I have named you, though you have not known Me. 5 I am the Lord, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me, 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun to its setting That there is none besides Me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; 7 I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the Lord, do all these things.’
Isaiah 45:8–11 NKJV
8 “Rain down, you heavens, from above, And let the skies pour down righteousness; Let the earth open, let them bring forth salvation, And let righteousness spring up together. I, the Lord, have created it. 9 “Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’? 10 Woe to him who says to his father, ‘What are you begetting?’ Or to the woman, ‘What have you brought forth?’ ” 11 Thus says the Lord, The Holy One of Israel, and his Maker: “Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons; And concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.
Isaiah 45:12–15 NKJV
12 I have made the earth, And created man on it. I—My hands—stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded. 13 I have raised him up in righteousness, And I will direct all his ways; He shall build My city And let My exiles go free, Not for price nor reward,” Says the Lord of hosts. 14 Thus says the Lord: “The labor of Egypt and merchandise of Cush And of the Sabeans, men of stature, Shall come over to you, and they shall be yours; They shall walk behind you, They shall come over in chains; And they shall bow down to you. They will make supplication to you, saying, ‘Surely God is in you, And there is no other; There is no other God.’ ” 15 Truly You are God, who hide Yourself, O God of Israel, the Savior!
Isaiah 45:16–19 NKJV
16 They shall be ashamed And also disgraced, all of them; They shall go in confusion together, Who are makers of idols. 17 But Israel shall be saved by the Lord With an everlasting salvation; You shall not be ashamed or disgraced Forever and ever. 18 For thus says the Lord, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the Lord, and there is no other. 19 I have not spoken in secret, In a dark place of the earth; I did not say to the seed of Jacob, ‘Seek Me in vain’; I, the Lord, speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
Isaiah 45:20–23 NKJV
20 “Assemble yourselves and come; Draw near together, You who have escaped from the nations. They have no knowledge, Who carry the wood of their carved image, And pray to a god that cannot save. 21 Tell and bring forth your case; Yes, let them take counsel together. Who has declared this from ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I, the Lord? And there is no other God besides Me, A just God and a Savior; There is none besides Me. 22 “Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. 23 I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall take an oath.
Isaiah 45:24–25 NKJV
24 He shall say, ‘Surely in the Lord I have righteousness and strength. To Him men shall come, And all shall be ashamed Who are incensed against Him. 25 In the Lord all the descendants of Israel Shall be justified, and shall glory.’ ”
