The purpose of man is not what I can gather for myself (money and wife) but my eternal relationship with God

Jesus understood something that others did not. This perspective of his relationship with God defined everything in his life and guided him in answering every question
What is the purpose of man?
The old church father’s claimed it was to love God and enjoy him forever
We see this shown true in Jesus’ answers to these two hot debate questions of his day
The greater understanding we have about our purpose and God-given meaning in life we will be able to answer any question that comes to us today as well
The purpose of man is not what I can gather for myself (money and wife) but my eternal relationship with God
Relationship with God- Love Him
Eternal- Enjoy Him Forever
Money and Marriage do not last forever, but our relationship to God does. So our money and marriage are to be used to further and deepen this eternal relationship with God

Render to Caeser what is his

We do not concern ourselves with wealth and equality
These things all perish and are turned over to another
We cannot take our wealth with us, one day another person will live in your house.
Matthew 6:19-21 lay not up treasures on earth

Neither marry nor are given in marriage

We do not concern ourselves with our rights and lives
We do not give greater weight to earthly things than heavenly
God gave marriage as a way to teach us and draw us closer to Him
Amber does not belong to me, nor do I belong to her, but we both belong to God and our helping eachother grow in relationship with Him
Both of these questions come from a worldly perspective of “godly” people. What is mine? What do I get? When will I get what is due me?
Luke 14:26 hate your own life also to be his disciple

Render to God what is his

We are created in the image of God
Just as the coin was made with Caesers stamp on it to remind everyone that all the land, money and power belonged to him, so God put his stamp on us to remind us that we are his
Caeser, America, Nepal get our tax but God gets our all. The Pharisees asked how much do we get to keep for ourselves and Jesus’ answer was “nothing”
They wanted to trap Jesus in making an enemy of the people or an enemy of Rome but Jesus answer made them an enemy of God
Jesus taught us that no matter our circumstance, we are to love God and enjoy him.
Our life, freedoms, treasures are all temporary, let us not waste time trying to keep such a tight fist on what we cannot keep in the end

Not God of the dead but the living

When he made promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; they were not temporary promises that they would lose when their life ended
God invited them into an eternal country and an eternal relationship with himself
They are not in heaven wishing they could still have canaan!
The earthly promise was a picture of something so much greater
Marriage is the same thing. It is an earthly promise that is a picture of something so much greater
I will not be in heaven wishing I was still married to Amber, and she wont be wishing she was married to me.
We will both be married to Christ, in a perfect relationship with God. Marital Bliss!
This life is not everything. It is what we have right now! Let us not lose sight of the eternal purpose we have been created with.
If we live our life trying to keep all for ourselves, we will lose it all in the end. If we live according to our purpose to love God and enjoy him forever than we will be living in eternity here in the temporary.
