24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
the law was a likeness and a foreshadow of the coming of Christ
the old testament believers where justified by their faith or living belief in the prophesied coming savior.
obedience to the letter of the law was to them; their salvation if they obeyed fully the laws of God.
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Christs death, burial and resurrection was a fulfillment of the requirements under the law for atonement and payment for sin and our redemption.
the story of Ruth, Naomi and Boaz
1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth-lehem-judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
2 And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth-lehem-judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
3 And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
4 And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.
5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
So Naomi lost her husband and her two sons and was left with her two daughters in law.
Naomi’s two daughters in law where Orpah and Ruth.
Since Naomi had no way of providing for them, she tried to get them to go back to their mothers.....
Orpah went back but Ruth stayed with Naomi.
they returned to Bethlehem
Boaz was kin to Naomi and Ruth so Ruth went to glean ears of corn in the field of Boaz to win his favor.
Just as Boaz was to Naomi her kinsman-redeemer…so is Christ to us our Kinsman-redeemer.
It was up to Boaz to redeem Naomi’s property back otherwise she would lose everything.
This story and the principles of redemption by a kinsman are an illustration of Jesus’ redemptive work to us sinners. Actually, Jesus came from the lineage of Boaz through David (Matthew 1:1-6).
Kinsman
The word kinsman has the same root as what we call next of kin today. It’s seen especially in documents involving inheritance, like in bank details. It requires information about your closest living blood relative or beneficiary of an investment.
A Kinsman is a relative: specifically a male relative
a relative is:
a : a person connected with another by blood or affinity
Affinity simply means a relationship by either blood or marriage.
KINSMAN — a male relative; a man sharing the same racial, cultural, or national background as another. In the Old Testament the word “kinsman” is often used as a translation of a Hebrew word that means, “one who has the right to redeem.”
Since an Israelite could sell himself, his family, or his land (Lev. 25:39–43) in cases of poverty, the kinsman-redeemer (Lev. 25:25) was provided to protect the clan. This person, a near relative, had the first option by law to buy any land being sold, thus allowing it to be kept within the clan (Lev. 25:23–28; Jer. 32:6–10).
the kinsman definition also dealt with women that where married and their husbands passed away before they could have children or their children passed away and they had no means for survival.
Redeemer
A redeemer is someone who buys back or regains the possession of a property or even a person that was sold to another. Normally, the redeemer pays the price or gives other property worth the value of what is being recovered.
in other words....a redeemer buys back or purchases something that was lost due to hard times to keep it in the family so that the person that fell on hard times has a chance to regain his loss…to get something back.
Kinsman-Redeemer
A kinsman-redeemer is the result of putting those two words together and means the closest blood relative who: willingly regains the possession of something or someone by paying their redemption price. This was practiced in the Israelite culture, God gave them directions on how to conduct it in the Levitical laws.

in order to have eternal life…we must be a partaker in his salvation message according to his word...
Jesus Christ is the bread of life....man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God...
by his word we live and by his blood we are redeemed.
making ourselves partakers in his death, burial and resurrection.
the cup we drink is the new covenant in His blood, shed for the forgiveness of sins
so to have a blood relationship with Jesus…we must be born again
for when we are born again and buried with him in baptism…the blood is applied to our lives for the remission of our sins and we are born into the family of God.

18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
Just as a kinsman must be willing and able to redeem that which needs redeemed…Christ came and laid down his life willingly.

When we become a child of God and are born into the kingdom, Jesus Christ comes to our rescue and pays the price for that which we had lost.
we had lost everything to sin…
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Jesus Christ was the only flesh and blood human that was without sin and spotless.
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Jesus Christ was the perfect lamb of God without spot or blemish…just as the law stated had to be in order for a sacrifice to be offered for sin.

he becomes our redeemer because we are born into the family of God.
when we become part of his family....we allow him to become our redeemer.
without being part of the family of God....he cannot become our redeemer…the only way a person can be saved is through the blood.
a kinsman redeemer is one that redeems someone within his family
15 Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
this meaning that we have been redeemed through his arm (referring to Jesus Christ)
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
the word or phrase “peculiar people” is derived from the Lat. peculium, and denotes, as rendered in the Revised Version ("a people for God's own possession"), a special possession or property. The church is the "property" of God, his "purchased possession" ( Ephesians 1:14 ; RSV, "God's own possession").
we are his possession because he has purchased us with a price...
in doing this he has become our redeemer....he has redeemed us by his blood…so that we can be restored back to a relationship with God as it was from the beginning
As the human race, the Bible refers to us as carnal and “sold under sin” (Romans 7:14, NKJV).
14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
And since the wages of sin is eternal death, we need a redeemer. That’s why in our spiritually poor and pitiful state, God decided to show us the “exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness towards us through Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:7, NKJV).
