Transcript

Expectancy is a much better path than expectations.

We are being challenged by God yet again to be full of expectancy with out being full of specific expectations.
If you want to find where your expectations are in life, look for “SHOULD BE’s’.
Or That is not fair.
Should be’s are a sign that you have specific expectations that are not happening.
When expectation are not happening the way you think they should you will be unhappy.
Luke 3:15 (NASB95)
15 Now while the people were in a state of expectation and all were wondering in their hearts about John, as to whether he was the Christ,
Phrase
in a state of expectation:
look for, waited for, expect, be in expectation
1. to expect (wether in thought, hope or in fear).
2. to look for, wait for.
In a state of expectation is like being expectant of a baby.
That baby is Expectancy and it grows within you bringing life to you from within.
Expectations unfulfilled drain the life out of you.
Negative expectations fulfilled drain the life out of you.
Only Expectancy from within can bring life to you.
For the unexpected to happen, you must go to the place where you already have expectations.
Acts 9:10–19 (NASB95)
10 Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” 11 And the Lord said to him, “Get up and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying, 12 and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him, so that he might regain his sight.” 13 But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he did to Your saints at Jerusalem; 14 and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.” 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel; 16 for I will show him how much he must suffer for My name’s sake.” 17 So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he regained his sight, and he got up and was baptized; 19 and he took food and was strengthened. Now for several days he was with the disciples who were at Damascus,
Saul and Ananias were both sent to people they had previous expectations about, so Jesus could do the unexpected.
God is sending you to the place where you have negative expectations so He can do the unexpected in you, for you, and through you.
Jesus is challenging people all around us to go towards the places and people they have high negative expectations about.
The good news is that these exchanges of negative expectancies for faith in Father’s goodness is Jesus’s specialty.
Many people are in the place of grief of what was hoped for dying.
Dreams, hopes, wishes and wants have not happened and now you are left broken and not knowing what it all means.
The last thing you want is to go down that road again.
Example:
The couple who had a motorcycle accident on Chuckanut dr. They later went back to that same place and he proposed to her there.
Jesus wants you to go down the road He is leading you even if their was disappointment before.
The difference this time is He is leading you and He is saying to expect the unexpected.
Luke 12:40 NASB95
40 “You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”
It is vital we put our expectancy in Christ in us not our expectation in what we think He should do.
Our Hope is in Christ in us.
Activation:
Jesus, where do you want be to go to believe for the unexpected?
What next step do I take towards that?
other recourses:
in a state of expectation:

35 “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. 36 “Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. 37 “Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. 38 “Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves. 39 “But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 40 “You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”
