Matthew 28:16-20
Matthew 28:16-20
Oh, the depth of the riches
and the wisdom and the knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments
and untraceable his ways!
When is the last time something made you go: “Ohhh! OHHH!”
Depth - the distance beneath the surface. SO MUCH BENEATH THE SURFACE! The Iceberg (avg. 100,000-200,000 tons). Largest recorded in history: 8 miles long, 3.5 miles wide, and weighed 9 billion tons. 90% of it is under water. Melt it down? enough water for every person on earth to drink a liter of water a day for the next four years. 90% of it under water.
Unsearchable - the ocean. Only 5 percent of it has been searched/explored by humans. Only 10-20% of the ocean floor has been mapped using sonar technology
Untraceable (unexplorable) - the universe. Constantly expanding!! Dora ain’t even able to explore all that.
Judgment, ways, and character of God. His wonder, His riches, His majesty, His glory, His power, His vastness, and His greatness of God! Unimaginably deep. Utterly unsearchable. Magnificently untraceable
Exodus 3:14 - God says “I AM”
you are…. What?
That’s the point.
Exodus 34 - The LORD, the LORD. YHWH.
Psalms is essentially a big book of PRAISE to GOD.
God is really, really, really, REALLY BIG AND GREAT.
“Jesus is God”
“Incarnation”: God became a human. He chose to become a person. With a body. And thoughts. And feelings.
Jesus is God. “Prove it.” “Bet.”
Jesus rose. Because God can do whatever He wants- nothing is too impossible or amazing for Him.
Disciples following Jesus. What’s next for Jesus?? What does God do when He rises from the dead???
Once they had expectations, now they have nothing. They’re just jaw-draggin’ and followin’ Jesus around.
“What you say GOES”
Matthew 28:16-20
They worshiped, (they didn’t have Joey and the band, no. Worship is about submission and response to who God is)
..yet some doubted.
What? This Man was brutally murdered, yet there is doubt. This Man would literally rise off the ground and ascend into heaven out of sight, yet there is doubt. “I don’t know man.”
If I see the miraculous, then I’ll believe. Will you?
There’s something about us that like to get caught up in ourselves. In our doubt and finitude. Satan knows that if we get caught up on ourselves and our doubts in our own mind and our own crises and inadequacies… then we are missing the infinitely great God.
Yet, knowing their misbelief and doubts, Jesus gives them the mission.
JESUS SAYS GO, BAPTIZE, TEACH.
What for??? To make disciples.
Don’t wait. Don’t wait until you are “perfect,” or ready, or it feels like it is the right time, or everything has fallen perfectly into place. Jesus says Go. Go now! You’ll always end up waiting.
“I am with you always”
The miracle is us now, y’all. GOD LIVES IN US, HIS PEOPLE.
