1. Jesus is the Messiah

John 4:25-26
Matthew 24:5,23,27 Jesus says that many will come in my naming saying “I am the Christ”
Matthew 26:63-64, Mark 14:61-62 Jesus confirms that he is the Christ, the Son of God.
Matthew 16:20, Mark 8:29-30, Luke 9:20-21 Jesus strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
Luke 24:26 Jesus refers to his suffering as necessary for the Christ to do and enter into his glory

1C. Jesus is the Son of Man

John 9:35-37 Jesus calls himself the Son of Man

2. To do the will of the Father/ is sent by the Father

John 4:34-38 To do the will of (the Father) him who sent him to accomplish his work. That work is reaping a harvest
John 5:17 - to be working with his Father - in this context, to be healing on the sabbath
John 5:19-22 The Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. The Son does what the Father does
The Father shows the Son all that he is doing
John 5:22 The Son raises people from the dead as does the Father
John 5:30 Jesus can do nothing of his own, but seeks not his own will, but the will of him who sent him. Therefore his judgement is just - as he hears, he judges
John 5:36 The works that the Father has sent him to accomplish are greater than John’s works and bear witness that the Father has sent him

John 12:49-50 Jesus has not spoken of his own authority but of the Father’s who sent him and has given him a commandment what to say and speak. his commandment is eternal life.
Jesus says what the Father has told him

3. To die as the sacrifice

John 3:13-21 - Jesus descended from heaven and will be lifted up like the serpent in the wilderness so that whoever believes in him will have eternal life. He did not come to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Those who do not believe will be condemned because they love the darkness and their works are evil
John 6:51 The bread that Jesus gives for the life of the world is my flesh
John 8:28 Jesus will be lifted up
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep
John 12:32 When he is lifted up on the cross, he will draw all people to himself

Mark 12:7-8,10-11 Jesus will be killed by the tenants of the vineyard. He is the stone that the builders rejected which became the cornerstone.

4. Jesus will Raise from the Dead

John 10:17-18 Jesus lays down his life so that he can take it up again. The Father has charged him and he has the authority to do it
John 14:19 because I live, you also will live

5. Jesus will ascend to the Father

John 7:33 He will ascend to the Father. They will seek him and not find him. They can’t go to where he is
John 13:33 where he is going they cannot come
John 14:12-14 Whoever believes in Jesus will do the works that he does and even greater
This will happen because he is going to the father.
Jesus will do anything that we ask in his name
John 14:19-20 Yet a little while and we will see him no more.
In that day, we will know that he is in union with the Father and with us
John 14:28 Jesus is going to the Father who is greater than he. We should rejoice over this.
John 16:5-8 Jesus is going to the Father and leaving the Helper who will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment
John 16:16-24 Jesus will leave and return again. We will have pain for a time but then joys like a mother who gave birth to a child. Jesus will see us again and our hearts will rejoice. The Father will give us all that we ask in his name
John 16: 28 Jesus came from the Father and is going back to the Father

6. to save those who believe in him

John 5:24-25,28 Whoever hears my words and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He is not judge but passes from death to life
The Dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and live
As the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself
Those who have done good will come out of their tombs when they hear his voice and resurrect to life
John 5:34 Jesus says these things so that you (we) may be saved.
John 6:37 All that the Father gives Jesus will come to him, and those Jesus will never cast out.
John 8:31-32,52 If they abide in his word they are truly disciples, they will know the truth, and the truth will set them free.
If anyone keeps his word, he will never taste death
John 10:7 Jesus is the door, if anyone enters by him he will be saved, go in and out and find pasture.
John 14:18 Jesus will not leave us as orphans. He will come to us.

Luke 24:47 The christ suffers and rises that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem

7. Those who do not believe will be condemned

John 3:17-21 - God did not send Jesus into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only son of God.
This is the judgement: the people loved the darkness instead of the light because their works are evil
wicked people do not like the light and do not want to be exposed.
John 5:22-24,27-29 The Father does not judge but has given all judgement over to the Son
Whoever believes does not come into judgement, but passes from death to life
The state of the world before Jesus is death. He does not condemn them, they reject his salvation and are therefore condemned.
John 5:25 The Dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and will live
John 5:27-29 The Father has given the Son the authority to execute judgement
They will hear his voice and come out. Those who have done evil will resurrect to judgment.
John 5:40,45 They refused to come to Jesus that they may have life.
They do not seek the glory that comes from the only God
Jesus does not accuse them, but Moses on whom they have set their hope. (Even though Moses wrote about Jesus!)
John 12:31 Now is the judgement of the world and the ruler of this world will be cast out
John 12:47-48 Jesus does not judge those who do not keep his words
Jesus did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
The words that Jesus has spoken will be their judge on the last day sind Jesus has not spoken of his own authority but of the Father who sent him
Matthew 13:37-43 The Son of Man sows good seed. At the end of the age, the weeds, sowed by the devil, will be gathered. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace.
Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.
Matthew 24:37-44 As in the days of Noah, so will the Son of Man come. Many will be unaware and swept away from the flood.
The Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect
The master (Son of Man) will come on an unexpected day and hour that the unfaithful servant is unaware of. The master will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites and throw them in hell
Matthew 25:33 Before him will gather all the nations and he will separate the sheep from the goats
Mark 8:38, Luke 9:26, Luke 12:9 Jesus will be ashamed of/deny whoever is ashamed of/denies Him and his words
Luke 12:45-46 The unfaithful servant will be surprised at the return of the Son of Man and will be cut in pieces and put with the unfaithful
Luke 20:16 The owner of the vineyard will destroy the tenants and give the vineyard to others.
Luke 20:17-18 The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.

8. To give new and eternal life

John 4:14 to give people living water - a spring of water welling up within the person for eternal life
John 5:22 The Son raises people whom he will to life as does the Father.
John 5:24 Whoever hears my words and believes him who sent me has eternal life.
He is not judge but passes from death to life
John 5:40 They refuse to come to him that they might have life
John 6:27 The Son of Man gives food that endures to eternal life. This eternal life is sealed by the Father, it is guaranteed.
John 6:28 this work is done by believing in Jesus
John 6:33,35 Jesus is the bread of life, from heaven that gives life to the world
Who comes to Jesus will not hunger or thirst
John 6:39-40 Jesus has come to do the will of the father which is to loose none, but to raise all that the Father has given him on the last day. All who look on the Son and believes in him will have eternal life and be raised on the last day.
John 6:48-58 Jesus is the bread of Life that comes down from heaven so that one may eat of it and not die. Whoever eats of the living bread will live forever
Eternal life comes from eating Jesus’s flesh and drinking his blood. Whoever partakes in the sacrifice of Jesus will be raised on the last day.
Whoever feeds on Jesus abides in him and he in them
John 8:12 I am the light of the world. Whoever follows him will not walk in darkness but have the light of life
John 10:9-11 Those who enter by Jesus, the door, will find pasture. Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly.
John 10:28 He gives his sheep eternal life, they will never perish. no one will snatch them out of his hand
John 11:25 I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes will live forever
John 14:19 because I live, you also will live
John 17:2 Jesus has authority over all flesh to give eternal life to all whom the Father has given him.

9. To make us one

John 17:11 Jesus kept them in the Father’s name that they be one.
Jesus guarded them - not one of them was lost
John 17:20-23 Jesus asks that we be one and join Jesus and the Father in their unity so that the world may believe that you sent me

10. To Bring Understanding (of God) to the believer

John 1:50-51 - to show those who believe great things - that angels will ascend and descend on him
John 4:25-26 Jesus is the Messiah (who will tell them all things)
John 5:20 The Father is showing the Son greater works so that we can marvel.
John 8:12 I am the light of the world. Whoever follows him will not walk in darkness but have the light of life
John 12:35-36 The Son of Man is the light. Walk in the light not the dark. Believe in the light, that you may become sons of light
John 12:46 Jesus came as light, so that whoever believes in Him may not remain in darkness.
John 14:21 Whoever loves God will keep his commandments, and Jesus will manifest himself to them
John 14:23 Jesus and the Father will make their home in him
John 17:6-8 Jesus manifested the Father’s name to the people whom He has given Jesus out of the world. Jesus gave them the words that the Father gave Him.
The people received and believed that you sent him
John 17:14 Jesus has given us his Word and the world hates us bc we are not of the world.
John 17:19 Jesus consecrates himself, that we also may be sanctified in truth
John 17:24 Jesus desires that those whom the Father has given him might be with him to see his glory
John 17:26 Jesus makes known to the world the Father’s name, and continues to make it know so that the the Father’s love may be in them
John 18:37 Jesus was born and came into the world to bear witness to the truth

11. To give the Holy Spirit

John 4:14 to give people living water - a spring of water welling up within the person for eternal life
John 7:38-39 Whoever is thirsty should come to Jesus for drink. Whoever believe in Him, will receive the Spirit, and out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
John 14:26 The Father will send the Helper, the Holy Spirit, in Jesus’name
He will teach them all things and cause them to remember all that Jesus has said
John 15:26 Jesus will send the Helper from the Father, the Spirit of truth, he will bear witness about Jesus
John 16:5-8 Jesus is going to the Father and leaving the Helper who will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment

12. Jesus brings the Kingdom

Mt 4:17 Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
MT 5:19 His teaching is for the Kingdom
Matthew 9:15-17, Mark 2:19-22, Luke 5:36-38 Jesus brings a new age of new wine
Matthew 10:6-8 He sends out his disciples to the lost sheep of the house of Israel to proclaim that the Kingdom of heaven is at hand. They heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons.
Matthew 12:28 Jesus brings the Kingdom of God upon people as he casts out demons
Matthew 16:28 Some will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom
Matthew 19:28 The Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne in the new world
Matthew 19:28 , Luke 22:30 his disciples will sit on 12 thrones and judge the 12 tribes of Israel
The first will be last
Matthew 25:31-33 He will come in glory with all the angels and will sit on his glorious throne.
Before him will gather all the nations and he will separate the sheep from the goats
Matthew 26:27 He knew that his blood was the blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. He will not drink again until he is in his kingdom

13. To send his disciples out

John 4:35-38 The fields are white with harvest. Jesus sent them to reap for that which they did not labor. Others have labored, and they have entered into their labor
They have joined the team of sowers and reapers. The sowers and the reapers may rejoice together
John 10:27 My sheep follow me
John 13:15 The disciples are to follow Jesus’ example
John 13:20 Those who receive you receives me and therefore the one who sends me
John 15:4 Jesus produces fruit in those who abide in him
John 15:16 Jesus chose and appointed us that we go and bear fruit and that our fruit should abide so that whatever we ask in his Father’s name, he will give to us.
John 17:18 As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world
John 20:21-23 Jesus sends out the disciples, gives them the Holy Spirit, and power to forgive and withhold forgiveness

14. Jesus will come again

Matthew 24:27-31, Luke 17:24 The Son of Man will be brilliant across the whole earth like lightning.
The Son of Man will come on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory
He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from all over
Matthew 24:37-44 Luke 17:26-31 As in the days of Noah, so will the Son of Man come. Many will be unaware and swept away from the flood.
Matthew 24:44, Luke 12:40 The Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect
Matthew 24:50 The master (Son of Man) will come on an unexpected day and hour that the unfaithful servant is unaware of. The master will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites and throw them in hell
Mark 13:35 The Master (Son of Man) will come suddenly so don’t be asleep
Luke 9:26, The Son of man will come in his glory, the glory of the Father, and of the angels
Luke 12:47-48 When the Son of Man returns, those who knew the master’s will will receive a severe beating than those who did not know.

14B. Jesus is the Son of Man from Daniel 7

Matthew 16:27 The Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.
Matthew 24:27-31 The Son of Man will be brilliant across the whole earth like lightning.
Matthew 24:30, Luke 21:27 The Son of Man will come on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory
He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from all over
Luke 21:28 His coming brings redemption

15. To bring Peace and Joy

John 14:27 - Peace
John 16: 33 Jesus brings peace because he has overcome the world
John 17:13 - joy fulfilled in themselves

16 Jesus causes division

Matthew 10:34-39 Jesus did not come to bring peace to the earth, but a sword.
Luke 12:49 Jesus came to cast fire on the earth. He has not come to bring peace but division - specifically in families
