TODAY'S POINT
Jesus is holy and that changes everything!
The message of Luke 5:1-11 is that Jesus is holy and meeting Him changes everything. ). Jesus wants to meet with you even if, like Peter, you have sinned and have brokenness. He desires to dwell or "tent" with you forever. Building tents or places to meet with God has been a long-standing tradition. Jesus wants all His people together at least once a week, and He wants to meet with you personally. In 1 Corinthians 3:16, we are reminded that we are God's temple and that the Spirit of God lives in us. In reflection, we should consider in what ways we may have misunderstood God's holiness, character, and love. We should also ponder Jesus' response when we don't want to worship.
Luke 5:1–11 CSB
1 As the crowd was pressing in on Jesus to hear God’s word, he was standing by Lake Gennesaret. 2 He saw two boats at the edge of the lake; the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the land. Then he sat down and was teaching the crowds from the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we’ve worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I’ll let down the nets.” 6 When they did this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets began to tear. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’s knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!” 9 For he and all those with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, Zebedee’s sons, who were Simon’s partners. “Don’t be afraid,” Jesus told Simon. “From now on you will be catching people.” 11 Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed him.
Jesus is Holy, the opposite of sinful.
He is Perfect in all His ways.
He is perfect in all His ways and the ultimate G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) He beat every test and overcame the Devil every time. Even when the Devil thought he knocked Jesus out. You might have heard the referee saying One, Two, Three, then the cheers, “Jesus IS alive!”
Hebrews 4:15 CSB
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.
b. He in modern terms is the ULTIMATE G.O.A.T.
Jeremiah 10:6 CSB
6 Lord, there is no one like you. You are great; your name is great in power.
c. Meeting Jesus changes you. v. 8
You will either want to know Him more or flee from Him.
Ancient people would get scared at thunder, rain, and the wind. They thought gods were out to get them. They tho
2. The AMAZING reality: Jesus wants to meet with you, even though you like Peter have sinned and have brokenness.
Building Tents in the house with my dad and cousins brings so many great memories. I can’t tell you all the reasons why its so cool. I can you that for me, there’s something about having a small space that makes you feel even more close. There is something about having a place that says, let’s huddle together here that builds a connection.
Let’s be real, those of you who have kids, neices/nephews, grandkids in grammar school. If they come home and see the living room couch has been converted into a blanket forte or tent, they know it’s party time! They want to hang out and have fun and it’s happening THERE! That’s the power of tents. No wonder God used tents to connect and grow the children of Israel. Sometimes, we need to remember the lesson Jesus taught. If we want to follow Him, we need to become like little children.
a. Holy has also referred to tents or places and time God designated to meet Him. (Called Sacred/Holy space/Sanctuaries/Houses of Worship). We do that today in this “tent” or worship center. He wants all his people together at least once a week.
Exodus 25:8 NLT
8 “Have the people of Israel build me a holy sanctuary so I can live among them.
b. Moses met personally with God in a tent as well. (Personal time with God)
Exodus 33:10–11 CSB
10 As all the people saw the pillar of cloud remaining at the entrance to the tent, they would stand up, then bow in worship, each one at the door of his tent. 11 The Lord would speak with Moses face to face, just as a man speaks with his friend, then Moses would return to the camp. His assistant, the young man Joshua son of Nun, would not leave the inside of the tent.
c. When Jesus came, the Apostle John used the same word and idea of hanging out together in tents.
John 1:14 NLT
14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
d. Jesus wants to dwell or tent with you forever. What in you, like Peter, needs to change?
1 Corinthians 3:16 CSB
16 Don’t you yourselves know that you are God’s temple and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
for reflection:
In what ways was Peter wrong to tell Jesus to depart?
What aspects of God can we emphasize that may lead to confusion about His holiness, character, and love?
When you do not “want” to worship, what do you think Jesus’ response is?

BIBLE VERSE

Make your ways known to me, LORD; teach me your paths.

Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Psalm 25.•4 (KJV)

LEADER DEVOTION

Have you ever followed å map or road sign, confident of the directions, only to be turned onto a road Where you never intended to go? If so, you likely felt frustrated. There are times in all our lives that we can look bäck and remember with certainty a path or direction in life that we were following with confidence, only to be derailed by an unexpected encounter.
In today's Bible story we meet Peter, a fisherman by trade who probably had very clear expectations of his path and

direction in life. One day, Peter had been fishing äll night and was washing his nets near the shore where Jesus was teaching crowds of people. Perhaps Peter was listening to Jesus with curiosity at a distance as he cleaned his nets, unaware of the twist he was about to encounter.
After teaching the crowds from a boat that belonged to Peter, Jesus turned to Peter and asked him to go out to catch fish. Peter responded that they had fished all night and caught nothing. Yet, at Jesus' request, Peter obeyed, and he caught more fish than he could have ever imagined. 📷
"When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus's knees and said, 'Go away from me, because I'm a sinful man, Lord!'" (Luke 5:8)
Peter sank to his knees in repentance and worship, recognizing that this miracle of fish was something only someone with God's power could do. Encountering Jesus changes everything. 📷
This week, you will irptroduce kids to Jesus, perhaps for the very first time. Some of the kids you encounter will be new and curious about whö this Jesus is, like the crowds on the shoreline. Some may be listening more intently, questioning if this Jesus is worth following. You will meet kids who are beginning to understand foundational truths about Jesus. Others will have already believed and trusted in Jesus and are taking their first steps toward growing in their faith. No matter where the kids you teach are in their spiritual journeys, Jesus has something to teach them this week about who 📷He is—and He is going to use you to help kids encounter Him.
