Set the tone/ A life of Sacrifice
Set the tone/ A life of Sacrifice
15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
16 So the people answered and said: “Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods; 17 for the Lord our God is He who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, who did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way that we went and among all the people through whom we passed.
We set the tone in everything
We’re supposed to be the thermostats in world and not the thermometer
Why do we look to the World to determine what we do?
What do you bring to your household?
Children are lead by their emotions not Men
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
When the leader gets better everyone gets better
Your called to lead the household
You can’t take natural authority without spiritual responsibility:
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
We can try and force submission
Are any of you competitive?
Your wives should not be leading you spiritually
We have to make sacrifices to the right things
1 Samuel 13
2 Years into Saul’s rule as King
Samuel the prophet says to Saul I’m going away for 7 Days don’t do anything stupid and don’t make any sacrifices
11 And Samuel said, “What have you done?”
Saul said, “When I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered together at Michmash, 12 then I said, ‘The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.’ Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering.”
13 And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. 14 But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”
Often we take inventory of what’s going on around us and rush to decisions
Rather than Holding Fast to the Word of God
We give spiritual authority away when we make sacrifices to the wrong things
3 Things that put us after God’s heart:
Worship
15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
2. Prayer
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
3. Sacrifice
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
You can sacrifice now or you can sacrifice later
Where are you sacrificing the wrong things?
Where should you be sacrificing to God?
Where do you need to be better at taking spiritual responsibility in your life?
