Testimony leading up to the “why” we do missions.
Key Points
Key Points
When is this taking place? (Matt. 28:6-8)
So leading up to this passage, we see read that the stone has been rolled away and the guards have basically passed out from fear. The angel is talking to the women who had come to the Tomb on the third day after Jesus had died.
now read verses 6-8.
The answer to when this is taking place is, without a doubt after Jesus’ resurrection.
Where is this taking place? (Matt. 28:7, 16)
It appears that this is taking place on a mountain that Jesus had told the disciples to meet him at in Galilee.
Who is involved? (Matt. 28:16, 18-20)
As clearly seen in verse 16, the eleven disciples were there. And verse 18 we see that it is Jesus addressing them.
There are a couple of others involved in this passage however. “the nations” meaning the people of the Earth of all ethnicities. And we have in verse 20, “behold I am with You always, to the end of the age.” This statement right here is what makes this Great Commission applicable to us today. Not only is Jesus talking to the eleven about going to the nations of their day, He is pushing this command forward to those disciples who will be made by them, and by them, and by them, all the way to us today, and even past us. “To the end of the age.”
Implications and Application
Implications and Application
What is this command? (Matt 28:19)
To go and make disciples of all nations.
Why?
Because this has been God’s plan from the beginning. (Abrahamic Covenant) bless all the nations through seed i.e. Christ (Gal 3). We as the Body of Christ are to be used by Him to reach the nations.
