I will share a parable today. This is not a true story, but it is a story that you can relate to.
A man found a really big hole in the ground. Wanted everyone to see it, so he told everyone about the hole. No one came. Wife said, maybe you need to change your marketing. Instead of BIG HOLE, call it GRAND CANYON. So, he spent his life telling everyone that this was the greatest place in the world.
He never left that place. Never saw things like Yellowstone, or Yosemite. Never saw the Rocky Mountains. He missed all of that.
In Christianity, sometimes we have pastors who land on one topic and preach it over and over again. There are those who spend most of their time talking about the end times. Others focus only on faith healing. Some focus on WORDS.
When that happens, sometimes you get so focused on that one topic that you begin to exaggerate the importance of that one topic. You even start to stretch the truth a little to make your point.
There are many ministers who have gotten that reputation over the years.
Look, this is the important thing. I am going to speak about the power of words, but I don’t want you to walk away thinking that this is some sort of NAME IT AND CLAIM IT series.
Today, the first thing that I want you to see is that words are powerful things.

Proverbs 18:20–21 (NIV84)
From the fruit of his mouth a man’s stomach is filled;
with the harvest from his lips he is satisfied.
The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.
