Patience

Hebrews 6:9–15 NKJV

9 But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. 10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. 13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” 15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

Each and everyone of us have been called to inherit God’s promise.

We ar called to immitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promise.

Many times when inheriting the promise of God is preached, Faith is always mentioned and rightly so.

However, just like faith is key to inherit God’s promises, patience is also key to inherit the promse.

Abraham having patienctly endured and waited he inherited the promise.

If we are to be like Abraham we have to have patience inorder to inherit God’s promise.

The promise of God

Mark 4:26–29 NKJV

26 And He said, “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, 27 and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. 28 For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. 29 But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

Once the seed has been sown, the famer sleeps and waits patiently, as the seed sprouts and grows.

The key is “he himslelf does not know how”

We will not know how the promise would be fullfill, we do not how God is going to accomplish his word.

When the time is ripe, the harvest will come. At the appointed time Sarah shall have a son.

David did not know how he was going to be the King of Israel, yet at the ripe time the harvest came.

Why does God make us wait, be patienct

James 1:1–4 NKJV

1 James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings. 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

The trials produces patience.

as we endure the trial in patience, there is a work that is being accomplished in our life.

A work that brings us to completion and perfection.

A work of character

Romans 5:1–4 NKJV

1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

2 Corinthians 4:16–18 NKJV

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

As we patiently endure different types of trials looking at the things which are not seen, Just like Abraham, Jacob and David.

It is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory

Luke 22:28–30 NKJV

28 “But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. 29 And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, 30 that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

James 5:7–11 NKJV

7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. 9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! 10 My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience. 11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.
