Summary: Leviticus 16 starts off by addressing the Death of Nadav and Avihu for Zealously and Boldly drawing Closer to God in an improper way, and as a result, God warns Aaron to not just come into the Holy of Holies at any time, but only on Yom Kippur
Familiarity Breeds Contempt
Example: Going over a friends house - Kings and Queens Chambers - Orthodox Jewish community would have separate beds for the Husband and Wife, sometimes even separate rooms!! Question: Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
Hint at the Armor of God - Leviticus 16:4-5 and Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the stratagems of the devil, 12 because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Because of this, take up the full armor of God, in order that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, girding your waist with truth, and putting on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and binding shoes under your feet with the preparation of the good news of peace, 16 in everything taking up the shield of faith, with which you are able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one, 17 and receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 with all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and to this end being alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,
Belt of Truth
Breastplate of Righteousness
Shoes of Peace
Shield of Faith
Helmet of Salvation
Sword of the Spirit
4 He must put on a holy linen tunic, and linen undergarments must be on his body, and he must fasten himself with a linen sash, and he must wrap a linen turban around his head—they are holy garments, and he shall wash his body with water, then he shall put them on. 5 And he must take from the Israelites’ community two he-goats as a sin offering and one ram as a burnt offering.
Tunic
Undergarments
Linen Sash
Linen Turban
Not included is -
Breastplate of Judgment/Urim and Thummim
Gold Headband saying “Holy to YHVH”
Notice that all of the Golden accessories that he would wear are off… Why is that? Reminder of the Golden Calf - Part of Repentance has to do with not bringing up a remembrance of that Sin that you repented for… If Israel sinned with Gold Jewelry, then it wouldn’t make sense for Aaron/High Priest to enter the Holy of Holies to Atone for Israels sins (Golden Calf included) wearing Gold objects
Chapter 17 talks about the Places to Slaughter meat for food as well as the instruction to not eat Blood
2 “Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the Israelites, and you shall say to them, ‘This is the word that Yahweh has commanded, saying, 3 “Any man from the house of Israel who slaughters an ox or a sheep or a goat in the camp or who slaughters it outside the camp 4 and he does not bring it to the tent of assembly’s entrance to present an offering to Yahweh before Yahweh’s tabernacle, then that man shall be accounted bloodguilty—he has poured out blood, and that man shall be cut off from the midst of his people. 5 This is so that the Israelites may bring their sacrifices that they are sacrificing in the open field and bring them for Yahweh to the tent of assembly’s entrance to the priest, and they shall sacrifice fellowship offerings for Yahweh with them. 6 And the priest shall sprinkle the blood on Yahweh’s altar at the tent of assembly’s entrance, and he shall burn the fat as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh. 7 And they may no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the goat-idols after which they were prostituting. This is a lasting statute for them throughout their generations.” ’
Verse 7, “And they may no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the ‘Goat-Demons’ (Se’irim) - Sei’ar - Hair (Satyrs) (Demons - Sheidim)
Rav Sha’ul (Apostle Paul) spoke about Idols and their connection with Demons - 1 Corinthians 10:18-22
18 Consider Israel according to the flesh: are not the ones who eat the sacrifices sharers in the altar? 19 Therefore, what am I saying? That food sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? 20 No, but that the things which they sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to become sharers with demons. 21 You are not able to drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You are not able to share the table of the Lord and the table of demons. 22 Or are we attempting to provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than he is, are we?
How are Idols made? Well, There is an Ancient Pagan Practice (Pit Pi Ceremony - Pe - Mouth) in which a priest would usher in a “God into the statue representing that God” in order to make that Idol capable of listening and seeing and smelling the offerings that the Idol Worshiper offers. In other words, that Idol would become a vessel in which their God could dwell within and do it’s actions through that vessel. It’s sort of like a portion of that God would put be on that idol, like a ‘shoe’, and capable of having independent thought compared to the same idol in a different city or shrine.... with this idea in mind, perhaps that’s the reason why God instructed Moses, and others to “Remove their Sandals because the Place that you are standing is Holy Ground”. On one level, it is to symbolize Humbleness and Submission, and maybe the other aspect of it is to not associate with that Pagan Pit Pe Ceremony, but the individual being the Vessel for that God, symbolized by the shoe.... Possession is real… But in order to prevent a risk of Demonic Possession, one must be clean and Holy, Inside and Out…
That’s part of the reason why God specified in Leviticus chapter 19 to “Be Holy as God is Holy”.... Chapter 19 is referred to as the “Holiness Code”, and in it, God gives plenty of examples of what NOT to DO if the individual wants to be considered “Holy”… Btw, this is where we find the Commandment that Yeshua mentioned where he said “Love your Neighbor as yourself”… That’s Leviticus 19:18
18 You shall not seek vengeance, and you shall not harbor a grudge against your fellow citizens; and you shall love your neighbor like yourself; I am Yahweh.
Now let’s look at these verses here. Leviticus 19:26-31
26 “ ‘You must not eat anything with the blood; you shall not practice divination, nor shall you interpret signs. 27 You shall not round off the corner hair of your head, and you shall not trim the corner of your beard. 28 And you shall not make a slash in your body for a dead person, nor shall you make on yourselves a tattoo’s mark; I am Yahweh.
29 “ ‘You shall not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, lest the land be prostituted and the land fill up with depravity. 30 You shall keep my Sabbaths, and you shall revere my sanctuary; I am Yahweh.
31 “ ‘You shall not turn to the mediums and to the soothsayers; you shall not seek them to become unclean with them; I am Yahweh your God.
Notice how all of these verses are pertaining to Idols, Divination, and Pagan Practice.... What’s the Connection here?
Eating Blood - According to Bill Schnoeblen, the Most addictive substance on Earth is Blood, and he knows this because when he was involved with the Church of Satan, and the Illuminati, he as basically a “Vampire” and drank whatever blood he could from Witches and random homeless people that no one seemed to care about… An action like that is not only addictive, Defiling a person, but also destructive to the person eating Blood. Ancient civilizations thought that if you drink the blood of your enemy or a particular animal, you absorb the power of that animal or person you killed. That’s one of many reasons why God says, “Don’t do it”
Divination/interpretting Signs (Stupidstition) same concept… That is tapping into the Spiritual Realm through unauthorized means…
beard and head - Mourning practices and cult prostitution practices - We as Believers aren’t supposed to dwell on Death, but Speak Life… that’s also why God says, “Don’t cut yourself for the Dead”.... As a person who represents light and life, why would you cover yourself with representations of Death… scars, cuts, wounds, in mourning???
Tattoos - “For the Dead”, and for reverence to the Idol or God that was worshipped… - Usually it’s Pagans who would tattoo themselves, and it’s not a coincidence that many Tattoo Artists/Parlors have plenty of representations of Death and Decay… I would argue that in the same way that the Pit Pe Ceremony would be done to summon a “God/Demon” into an Idol, in the same way, Tattoo Ink is giving the Tattoo Artist the Ability to cause Demons and Spirits to cling to the Tattooed Persons Body… It’s much worse if the Artist decides to Curse the Ink, God Forbid… Solution/Remedy?
This is perhaps the reason why the Rabbis instituted “Kosher Meat” because the idea is to have a priest/Shecter slaughter the Animal according to the way God showed Moses on Mt. Sinai, and dedicate it to God… I’m sure the practical application is when we sit down and Bless God for the Food that is before us (Grace before the Meal).... What many people don’t practice is the Blessing AFTER the Meal which we are commanded to do, and for good reason.
10 And you will eat, and you will be satisfied, and you will bless Yahweh your God because of the good land that he has given to you.
11 “Take care for yourself so that you not forget Yahweh your God by not keeping his commandments and his regulations and his statutes that I am commanding you today, 12 lest when you have eaten and you are satisfied and you have built good houses and you live in them, 13 and your herds and your flocks have multiplied, and you have accumulated silver and gold, and all that you have has multiplied, 14 then your heart becomes proud and you forget Yahweh your God, the one who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, 15 the one leading you in the great and terrible desert infested with dangerous snakes and scorpions and parched ground, where there is no water, and the one bringing out water for you from flint rock, 16 the one feeding you manna in the desert, food that your ancestors did not know, in order to humble you and in order to test you so that he could do good to you in the future. 17 And you may think in your heart, ‘My strength and the might of my hand acquired this wealth for me.’ 18 But you must remember Yahweh your God, for he is the one giving you strength to acquire wealth in order to confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors as it is today. 19 And it will happen that if you indeed forget Yahweh your God and you go after other gods and you serve them and you bow down before them, I warn you today that you will surely perish. 20 As with the nations that Yahweh is destroying before you, so you shall perish because you would not obey the voice of Yahweh your God.
How quickly do we forget God’s Provision and Protection when life is Good and Well??
Chapter 18 talks about the Laws regarding Forbidden Relations (Incest). Apostle Paul had to address this situation
