I Am A Follower

Growing up I’m. Sure all of us in here were told at a. Young age to always be a leader and not a follower. Being a leader was instilled in me at young age often times when my father would talk to me before I would go to school he would tell me son Be a leader and not a follower. My parents found this important to tell me because with being leader means to take charge and be in control and to make the right decision for myself.

So we know and understand that being a leader is important. With being a leader and in a leadership role you have to learn how to set an example and be an example to others. Being a leader is important in this life because without someone taking lead things would be in shambles. We find out in life you can have good Leaders and Bad Leaders.

Bad leaders are don’t have good communication

Bad leaders don’t own up to their mistakes

Bad leaders have a know it all attitude

Bad leaders avoid confrontation

Bad leaders are inconsistent

My brothers and sister we are living in a time in this world where we have bad leaders in positions. We got bad leaders in our schools

Bad leaders in positions on our jobs

Bad leaders in positions In our government

Not only that it’s sad when we come to the church and we see that we have bad leaders in our churches

We got people in leadership positions for titles and recognition

We got leaders that want to be served and not serve

We got leaders in the church who have a spirit of entitlement just because of the position they hold.

We got leaders who are are fleecing the sheep and in it for the money and not the souls.

Bad leaders are ruining the church of today. That’s why we have young people that don’t want to come to church because we have bad leaders in position talking about, that young sister or brother instead of encouraging them and letting them know. That The mess you are in right now use to be me but God delivered me and I know he can do the same for you. We have got to stop being bad leaders. And the reason why we have so many bad leaders is because they are too prideful to full of themselves to take correction and won’t humble down.

Just look at your neighbor and say don’t be a bad leader humble down and remain humble

Bad leaders are around us but even in the midst of having bad leaders we have some good leaders

We know good leaders are kind and they will instruct and so what it is that necessary to get the Job done

A good leader is consistent

A good leader is reliable

A good leader is dependable

A good leader empowers

A good leader exhibits humility

A good leader is a good communicator

A good leader had integrity

A good leader is respectful

All of these qualities make you a good leader. However it’s one quality I forgot the quality that I forgot was In order to be a Good Leader you must learn how to follow first.

The great honorable Dr. Lee told Devon Miles on the Movie Drumline “You must first learn to follow before you can lead Mr Miles”

My brothers and sisters we must learn how to be a Follower before we can be someones leader.

When you learn how to be a follower you can learn to lead well.

To many of people in the body of Christ want to jump out and be a leader but don’t have any following skills.

MLK Followed Ghandi

John Lewis Followed MLK

Reverend Jesse L Jackson Followed John Lewis

Reverend Al Sharpton Followed Reverend Jesse L Jackson

Reverend Stephen Green Followed Reverend Al Sharpton

Reverend Joseph Clayton Followed Reverend Stephen Green.

All great leaders in this world have followed someone

Ok let me give you Bible

Joshua Followed Moses

Elisha Followed Elijah

Timothy Followed Paul

The disciples followed JESUS

This morning I came to encourage you and let you know it’s nothing wrong with being a follower because in order to lead you must learn to follow.

Not only that in a scripture we read in our Hearing it’s three things I want to show that it is okay to be a follower.

Let’s look at the Verse again.

John 10:27 NLT

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

When I look here at this verse it was one word that kept coming to me. The one word was Connection.

My brothers and sisters when you are a true follower you are connected. In that connection a true follower should know His voice.

Growing up being connected to my father it was certain times when I didn’t see him but i heard his voice and I knew that it was him talking because I had been connected to him for so long.

I had a consistency with knowing his voice and the way it sounded so I could tell and know it was him .

Brothers and sisters it’s two things I want to bring to your attention when it comes to being a follower and wanting to be connected and having connection.

When you are a follower either you are a consistent follower or a distant follower.

On this Journey of being a follower we cannot be distant followers. Being distance followers will cause you to have a low connection.

Many people probably often wonder why they can’t hear from God. Well the reason is because you have low connection . We see and hear everything else good.

We are connected with the latest trend and connected when it comes to the football game and basketball game.

We are connected when it comes to know about our favorite TV Show.

But when it comes down to spending time with God and being able to hear his voice we have low connection. We are distant in our connection and the further away we go the more our connection begins to fail.

So we must not be distant followers but we must be consistent followers.

How do we be consistent? Well Im glad you asked.

You are consistent by praying.

In order to be connected you got to have communication and we communicate with God through prayer.

You have to study his word and follow his word.

The bible tells us do not only be hearers of the Word but we must be Doers also.

You Got to be consistent to say not my will God but your Will be done.

Once you are a consistent follower your connection will be strong.

I learned that a relationship with Christ is like Wifi. The closer you are to the modem where you get your connection the stronger your access and internet speed is when you are searching and looking something up, But as soon as you walk away from the modem you will see bars begin to drop and the further away you go the more bars will begin to fall and once all the bars are gone it will say no connection or connection lost.

Brothers and sisters in this relationship with Christ and being a follower the more consistent you are with God the stronger your relationship will be and your connection will be strong, so when storms rise and winds blow you'll be able to stand tall in the midst of adversity because when you have connection you understand that Things will happen but I know and God words teaches us that he will work everything out for my Good. So my faith won’t fail me even in my hardships because my connection is strong. However if your connection is weak and you are a follower you won’t understand how to stand in the midst of adversity. Weak connection will cause you to be all over the place toss to and fro, because your connection is weak. Not only that we can possibly lose connection when being toss to and fro and when adversity arises cause we will look to connect to something else that will only give us temporary connection and not lasting connection.

Ask yourself how is your connection?

So being a true follower you have Connection

John 10:28–29 NLT

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.

My brothers and sisters when you are a follower not only are you connected but are protected, you have protection.

We see here in the text that this is Jesus Talking. Jesus is telling the people you are protected. As a follower Jesus wants you to know you can trust him and that you will be protected if you only believe. Jesus protects his sheep from eternal harm. As believers God protects our soul from the enemy.

On this journey we will have trials and temptations but our soul will be kept and protected by God.

The bible tells us that on this journey we will experience persecution but I understand and realize that yes we may Go through things in life but if we choose to follow Jesus he will give you everlasting life.

I Don’t know about you but I just need 5 people and ill make 6 that can say i will Trust in the Lord until I die.

Some trust in horses and some in chariots but I will remember the name of the Lord.

My body may go through but thats alright because my soul is in Gods Hand and The enemy and snatch whats in Gods Hands

Thats why i trust and believe him the way that i do because i know that he will protect me

The sung a song that simply says Im safe in his arms.

Not only that but i heard another song be sung by the name of My soul is anchored in the Lord things may come up but my soul in anchored in Jesus.

Come here Job, Job understood that God had his Soul and that no matter what arised in Life Job kept his faith in God.

Even when he wanted to give up on God he didn’t but he got up shaved his head bald and said the Lord gives and the Lord taketh away Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

Can you stay committed and be a true follower through adversity. Can God trust you to keep holding the blood stain banner even is your crisis.

Will your crisis cause chaos and cause you to lose your belief or will your crisis cause you to commit more to him so that you will make it through crisis depending on him and not others.

So as a true follower we must keep our belief so we can be protected.

A True Follower is Connected , Protected, and Lastly Satisfied.

Lets look at the text John 10:30

John 10:30 NLT

The Father and I are one.”

As i Hasten to my close Jesus Makes a Clear Statement.

This statement here is saying that the essence and purpose of God the Father and Jesus the Son are the same.

I dont know about you but that is good news to me that God and his son are on the mindset when it comes to the Sheep meaning us.

That one mindset is that all might be save and accept Him as our personal Lord and Savior

I don’t know about you but that gives me satisfaction

Thats why I have decided to be a Follower,

Because I Love jesus he’s my savior when the storms are raging he is my shelter, where he leads me i will follow I Love jesus he loves me

Im a follower thats why i Sing I love the Lord and I won’t take it back why because he has been so good to me

Im a follower because I know that All things work out for my Good.

I am a Follower because Weeping May endure for the Night but Joy is Coming in the Morning

Is there anybody here other than me that can Say I am a Follower.

Im going to follow Jesus, When people talk im going to follow jesus when they lie on me im going to follow jesus

I am follower because what Jesus did for me HE Died on calvary but he didnt stay dead he got up earlyyyy sunday morning with all power in his hands.

Thats why i am a follower.
