MERCY AND REDEMPTION
MERCY AND REDEMPTION
INTRODUCTION
MANY OF US HAS FALLING UNDER THE MERCY OF GOD WHERE WE WAS NOT IN AN GOOD PLACE WITH GOD, ONLY TO FIND OURSELVES WALKING IN GUILT.
GUILT CAN PUT YOU IN A PLACE OF DESPERATION WHERE THE ONLY VOICE YOU WANT TO HEAR FROM IS THE LORD.
MERCY WILL SHOW THE LORD’S COMPASSION TOWARD THOSE WHO DESERVE THE PUNISHMENT.
THERE ARE 3 THINGS I LIKE TO DISCUSS.
PRAYER OF MERCY.
CONFIDENCE OF FORGIVENESS.
HOPE IN THE LORD.
A. PRAYER OF MERCY
PSALM 130: 1-2 “Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice: Let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.”
THE ONE THING I CAN CLEARLY SEE ABOUT THE PSALMIST IS THE RELATIONSHIP HE HAS WITH THE LORD.
THE PSALMIST HAD CONCERNS ABOUT THE SINS OF ISRAEL AND HE WANTED THE LORD TO HEAR HIS VOICE.
OBVIOUSLY THE SINS OF ISRAEL WEIGHED HEAVY ON HIM TO THE POINT HE FELT GUILTY HIMSELF FOR THERE SINS.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CLOSE TO SOMEONE AND YOU CAN SEE THERE LIFE OUT OF CONTROL TO THE POINT WHERE IT AFFECT YOU MORE THEN IT AFFECT THEM.
SOMETIMES WE WANT SOMETHING FROM OTHER’S , THAT THEY DO NOT WANT FOR THEMSELVES.
WHEN THIS HAPPEN THE BEST PLACE FOR THEM IS TO PUT THEM IN THE LORD’S HANDS.
BECAUSE WE DO NOT KNOW THE PLANS THE LORD HAS FOR SOMEONE LIFE.
THE PSALMIST NEEDED THE LORD TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO HIS SUPPLICATIONS, MEANING HE WAS ASKING GOD FOR SOMETHING FROM A PLACE OF HUMILITY AND DESPERATION.
THE ONE THING THAT WE CAN LEARN ABOUT SIN IS IT WILL TAKE YOU TO YOUR LOWEST AND KEEP YOU IN BONDAGE TO IT.
BUT THANKS BE TO GOD , WHO GIVES US THE VICTORY.
IF IT WASN’T FOR THE MERCY OF GOD AND HIS LOVING KINDNESS WE ALL WOULD HAVE SELF DESTRUCTED.
LAMENTATIONS 3:55-58 “I called upon thy name, O Lord, out of the low dungeon. Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry. Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not. O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.”
B. CONFIDENCE OF FORGIVENESS.
PSALM 130: 3-4 “If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, That thou mayest be feared.”
THE ONE THING THAT STANDS OUT THE MOST ABOUT THE PSALMIST IS HIS CONFIDENCE OF THE LORD’S FORGIVENESS.
THE PSALMIST SAID IF THOU, LORD SHOULDEST MARK INIQUITIES, O LORD, WHO SHALL STAND? MEANING IF THE LORD TOOK STRICT ACCOUNT OF OUR SINS, WHO WOULD BE DECLARED RIGHT IN THE SIGHT OF GOD.
THE PSALMIST IS AWARE THAT NO ONE LIVES PERFECTLY BEFORE YAWEH AND THAT NO ONE CAN WITHSTAND CLOSE SCRUTINY BY YAHWEH FOR MISDEEDS AND MISTAKES. NONE OF US IS EXEMPT FROM GOD;S CHASTISEMENT.
IT IS GOD CHASTISEMENT THAT CORRECTS US WHEN WE WRONG AND NONE OF KNOW WHAT THAT
PUNISHMENT WILL BE.
IF GOD DID NOT PREPARE A WAY FOR FORGIVENESS THROUGH HIS SON CHRIST JESUS WE ALL WOULD HAVE BEEN CONDEMN FOR LIFE.
FORGIVENESS IS THE LIFTING UP OF THE BURDEN OF SIN.
PSALM 90:8-12 “Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, Our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: We spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; And if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, Yet is their strength labour and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? Even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. So teach us to number our days, That we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
C. HOPE IN THE LORD
PSALM 130:5-8 “I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, And in his word do I hope. My soul waiteth for the Lord More than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning. Let Israel hope in the Lord: For with the Lord there is mercy, And with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel From all his iniquities.”
THE PSALMIST FINDS HIMSELF WAITING PATIENTLY ON THE VERDICT OF THE LORD.
IT IS NOT WISE TO GET A SPEEDY TRIAL CONCERNING THE LORD, BECAUSE IT MIGHT NOT GIVE HIM ENOUGH TIME TO CHANGE HIS MIND ABOUT US.
IF GOD RIGHT OUT JUDGED US FOR OUR SINS, WE ALL WOULD BE PUT AWAY FOR LIFE.
WAITING PRODUCE STRENGTH, WAITING MAKES YOU REFLECT ON WHERE YOU GOT OFF COURSE, WAITING MAKES YOU HUMBLE BEFORE THE LORD, WAITING MAKES YOU RELY ON GOD MORE, WAITING KEEPS YOU FROM MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES OVER AGAIN.
PSALM 27:14 “Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: Wait, I say, on the Lord.”
