We are in a spiritual battle Ephesians 6:10-12
There is no doubt we are in a world of evil, and every day we are in a battle against Satan’s minions, and those who would lead people astray. So how do we fight them? Not by giving them all of the attention they want! Bad publicity is still publicity!
When Peter was focused on the things of man, Jesus scolded him Matthew 16:21-23
This is a slightly different situation, as Peter is hoping that God would not require Jesus’ life as a sacrifice, but the point is that Peter was focused on the things of this world instead of the power and mercy of God.
We fight against Satan in the same manner Jesus did, with the Word of God Matthew 4:1-4
Jesus is referencing Deuteronomy 8, when the Israelites were complaining of hunger, and by the Word of God they were fed.
Matthew 4:5-7
Satan, like the world will do, tried to turn the Word of God back around on Jesus, speaking prophecy from Psalms 91. But Jesus rebukes him again with the Word of God, speaking from Deuteronomy 6 this time.
Matthew 4:8-10
This time Satan offers Jesus immense power, to which Jesus replies with the statement that he shall worship God, and it will be Him alone that is worshipped, referencing Deuteronomy once again.
Let’s take a look at some warriors for Christ going against the likes of Sam-what’s-his-name.
The Maverick City Band-who won the second most awards following Beyonce, who said on stage “the perfect love casts out all fear, and that perfect love is Jesus Christ”. They referenced 1 John 4:18 on a stage being broadcasted to millions of people.
Tim Tebow wore John 3:16 on his eye shadow for a national championship college football game. That night, and exactly three years later when he won his first NFL playoff game John 3:16 was the most google searched term in the world. Three years after that game Tebow threw for 316 yards, averaged 31.6 yards per completion, his team’s time of possession was 31.06, the game’s ratings were 31.6 million viewers. Talk about using God’s Word!!
Finally, Chris Pratt gave a speech at an award’s ceremony boldly proclaiming the reality and power of God.
The way we fight the principalities is not by bemoaning their existence but by taking up our sword and fighting by spreading the Gospel to all who will listen.
