What is interesting about tonight’s lesson is that the third point is the reason for points 1 and 2. Tonight’s lesson also goes well with the time of year we are in, graduation.
Trust God in Your Profession
Trust God in Your Profession
The disciples had encountered Jesus already twice. As of now they do not know how to carry on besides what they had always been doing, fishing for a living. They fished all night and caught not a thing. Well morning comes and Jesus watches them from shore and hollers to them to throw out the other side, and they then catch more than they could imagine. Imagine their attitude when they threw it (because at that point they did not know it was Jesus).
When they listened to Jesus in their profession the result was something unimaginable, that glorified God.
All night they depended on their own knowledge of how to go about their job, and it did not go very far. They listened to Christ in their job and he provided and brought himself glory.
How do we glorify God in our profession:
Pray. Have you prayed for God’s guidance? God gives guidance to all careers, not to just those in ministry.
Approach your job with 1 Corinthians 10:31
Build relationships with coworkers (Not called to be antisocial)
Be different
Be thoughtful of the fact you are a leader, and your attitude will affect the trajectory of your area.
Don’t just go to college based off of what you think is best for your life, but what God knows is best. Don’t let everything fall apart around you to be the thing to get your attention to the correct path. Also don’t think just because you are a believe everything is gonna go smoothly, Peter had some bad days fishing.
God Provides
God Provides
Peter and them fished to provide for their family. I imagine they lived paycheck to paycheck in a sense. God met their needs. God took care of them. God called them to spread his Gospel and he did not just throw them out to sea and abandon them.
Sometimes we like to point at God for not providing, but he has but in our sinful state we have mishandled his blessings. Food for example. we produce in the world enough food for 10 billion people. How many people exist? 8 billion.
In the end we need to be good stewards of what God has provided to us. So often we squander what God provides. How do we avoid squandering what God gives us:
Pray over every decision. Pray over how you spend your money. Not just your tithe.
Compare life decisions with Scripture.
Guard against impulsiveness.
Take a Biblical finance course
Seek wisdom from other believers
Fellowship With Jesus
Fellowship With Jesus
They came to shore and ate with Jesus (we see Jesus eating post-resurrection more clearly in Luke 24:42-43). So this shows we could quiet possibly still eat in eternity.
They fellowship with Jesus. Spent time with him. In a sense we need to have breakfast with Jesus. Take time to open his word and read it. meditate on it. As you fellowship with Jesus, you will realize where the the things of God going on. You won’t have to question is God moving, you will be in the midst of him moving. i want to see us all have the passion of Peter when it comes to fellowship with Jesus. Peter decided the boat was moving too slow so he jumped in and swam 100 yards
