True God
True God
There is only one God
This means that our love for him must be undivided
To know God and what he desires brings us close to Him and his kingdom
The Lord of David
All Israel was looking for the Son of David to come and do more of what his father did
Conquer enemies and be a great war leader
Be a servant of God on an earthly throne
But Jesus showed them the true prophecy that the messiah would be the Lord of David
He would not do as David did but would do a greater work, a superior work
God would establish on a heavenly throne side by side with God in glory
True Godliness
True Godliness
Not demonstrated in any outward ritual or sacrifice
God does not ask for sacrifice (Psalms 40:1-11)
he asks for our heart
Not like the scribes and pharisees
They love the praise of men and truly only love themselves (devour the most vulnerable and helpless)
They like to appear godly on the outside but inside our dead and wicked
To love God is to also love like God
This is the second great commandment
A selfless love, a sacrificial love
The poor widow gave more than all because she gave her all
Jesus gave his very life to save all of man
He became poor so that we could be rich (2 Corinthians 8:9)
Jesus and God are one, to love God you must love them both with all your heart, mind, soul and strength
What does that look like?
not some outward demonstration but from our heart
not just an appearance of godliness
to love God is to love like God
