Update Scoreboard.

Introduction

Last week we learned about anxiety (Matt. 6:25-34).
We were challenged to pray to God for help with our anxieties.
Did you do it?
Today we are going to learn about judging others.
Tell me about a time when someone judged you.
How did you feel?
Handouts

Passage

7:1 “Do not judge, so that you will not be judged.

2 For by what judgment you judge, you will be judged, and by what measure you measure out, it will be measured out to you.

3 And why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the beam of wood in your own eye?

4 Or how will you say to your brother, ‘Allow me to remove the speck from your eye,’ and behold, the beam of wood is in your own eye?

5 Hypocrite! First remove the beam of wood from your own eye and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye!

6 “Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls in front of pigs, lest they trample them with their feet, and turn around and* tear you to pieces.

Five W’s

Who: (speaker:) Jesus, (audience:) disciples, your brother, hypocrite, dogs, pigs.
Note: “your brother” refers to another follower of Jesus.
When: N/A.
Where: N/A.
What: Explain in your own words what is happening in this passage.

Jesus commands His followers to address their own sins before they judge the sins of others.

Why: Because only God is Judge.
When we judge others, we attempt to take the place of God (like Adam & Eve did, and Satan before them).
Exalting Jesus in Matthew The Evidence of Exceeding Righteousness

The bottom line is this: There should be something different about the lives of Jesus’ disciples. Life in the kingdom will look different from life in the world.

How

How: Jesus commanded, “do not judge” before you “remove” the sin from your life.
