Psalm 52:5–7 ESV
5 But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah 6 The righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying, 7 “See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”
Psalm 2:1–12 ESV
1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” 4 He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. 5 Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, 6 “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” 7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” 10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
1 Timothy 2:1–5 ESV
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
Introduction
Yesterday we witnessed the Coronation of King Charles III, the first for 70 years. Whatever your feelings about it or, indeed the whole question of the Monarchy there are overriding principles to which every true believer must abide.
1 Timothy 2:1–2 ESV
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
Proverbs 8:15 ESV
15 By me kings reign, and rulers decree what is just;
Proverbs 16:12 ESV
12 It is an abomination to kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness.
Psalm 52:7 ESV
7 “See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”
Psalm 2:10–11 ESV
10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
I want to consider the regalia of the Coronation and from those to point to the one true and everlasting King.

a. The Monarch’s Crowns

The first English Coronation took place in 973 (1059 years ago). Took place at Bath when Edgar, Alfred the Great’s great grandson was crowned.
St Edward's Crown is the centrepiece of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom. Named after Saint Edward the Confessor (c.1003-1066), versions of it have traditionally been used to crown English and British monarchs at their coronations since the 13th century.
The original crown was a holy relic kept at Westminster Abbey, Edward's burial place, until the regalia were either sold or melted down when Parliament abolished the monarchy in 1649, during the English Civil War.
The current St Edward's Crown was made for Charles II in 1661. It is solid gold, 30 centimetres (12 in) tall, weighs 2.23 kilograms (4.9 lb), and is decorated with 444 precious and semi-precious stones. The crown is similar in weight and overall appearance to the original, but its arches are Baroque.
After 1689, it was not used to crown any monarch for over 200 years. In 1911, the tradition was revived by George V and has continued ever since. In 1953,
The Imperial State Crown is one of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom and symbolises the sovereignty of the British monarch. It has existed in various forms since the 15th century. The current version was made in 1937 and is worn by a new monarch for the first time in the royal procession following their coronation (having been crowned with St Edward's Crown during the ceremony) and subsequently used at State Openings of Parliament. The crown is adorned with 2,901 precious stones, including the Cullinan II diamond, St Edward's Sapphire, the Stuart Sapphire, and the Black Prince's Ruby (a spinel).

9 But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

b. The Believer's Crown

2 Timothy 4:8 ESV
8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

5. The Swords

The Sword of State

First used at the Coronation of James II in 1685, the Sword of State may be the most familiar sword to royal watchers and those who follow British politics. The sword is prominent at formal occasions, including the State Opening of Parliament. Carried with the point upwards, ahead of the sovereign, the Sword of State represents royal authority.

The Sword of Temporal Justice, the Sword of Spiritual Justice, the Sword of Mercy

These three swords are used during the Coronation Procession.
The Sword of Temporal Justice shows that the monarch is the Head of the Armed Forces. The Sword of Spiritual Justice represents the sovereign as the Defender of the Faith. The Sword of Mercy, also known as a curtana, has a blunted tip and represents the monarch’s mercy.
