1 Peter 5:1-4 “1 Therefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed, 2 shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; 3 nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock. 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.”
Phil 3:17 “17 Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us.”
1 Cor 11:1 “1 Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.”
Alive: Elders, Deacons, Widows, Friends, Family… people we know that were noble leaders unwilling to waver from the faith. AND those who have passed on.
Jesus & Divisions
God never changes
In our world, change is inevitable! Children grow up, technology gets more advanced. But its comforting to know that Christ nor His word can or will change.
Eph 5:15-17 “15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
What wont change about Christ?
His attitude towards false doctrine
His ability to save
His desire to love and show compassion
His faithfulness in keeping His Word
His plan of salvation
“strange doctrine” … any teaching not part of God’s Word. Pre-mil… calvinism… denominationalism
City
Phil 3:20-21 “20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; 21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”
“We bring the sacrifice of praise.. into the house of the Lord! And we offer up to you, the joy of my salvation.”
